  • I must have been hired without my knowledge

It happened that I felt the need to go to Bed Bath and Beyond. As I was browsing through the kitchen area looking at all the little gadgets and tools, I was approached by a slightly-more-than-middle-aged woman and her husband. At the time I had a salt and pepper shaker set in my hands.

    Woman - "I'm looking for <item>, and I can't find them anywhere."

Me - "Oh. Sorry, I don't know where those are."

Woman - "You don't!? How can you not? How can someone who works here not know where the <items> are!!?"

    Me - "Umm... I- I don't work here..."

Woman - "Oh. Well there are no workers around, I thought you had to be one."

    And she walks away.

The people I was with all just looked at me in confusion and kinda laughed about it. The weird thing is that I was dressed in a bright, untucked tshirt, ratty jeans, and skate shoes, and I had no name badge to give her the idea that I was an employee. I guess she thought that since I was young, I MUST have worked there. The fact that I was browsing through merchandise, didn't have a name tag, and wasn't wearing anything that resembled employee attire didn't register with her.

I guess I finally have my own "I don't work here" moment!

I think at one point in our lives we will all have one but if you notice, we're always wearing the clothes that scream: I don't freaking work here!!! I was wearing a shirt with a skull on it and blue jeans and got asked if I worked at safeway. Yeah... Its a new skull uniform. lol

I had one of those 2 weeks ago. I got out of A&P and went headed to the mall to preorder a game, after I get out my sister called me to bring some creamer home and the nearest store is Shop Rite so I go there. I'm on my way to the checkout and a guy stops me and asks me where the kosher soups are, I told him I don't know since I don't work here.

Not a lot of people work in the same department. Sure it was a brain burp but that one line was borderline sucky customer, IMHO of course.

That reminds me of something that happened at work. Note, I do work there.

SC: Why doesn't the copy machine work?
Me: I don't know (because I am on the other side of the library from the machine, and it was working fine as much as I know).
SC: *in a snotty voice* well can you get someone who knows how to run it?
Me: Let me look at it first, and see what is wrong.
            we go to the copier
SC: Why don't you know what's wrong? Is it your first day here?
Me: I'm trying to see what is wrong...
SC: I don't have time for this.
So I go get the manager because I was sick of the woman.
The machine needed paper, and I probably would have figured it out if she wasn't riding my ass. She was shooting hateful looks at me as the manager put paper in.

Anyway, the point is, even if you work at a place, they expect you to spit out the answer like Data from ST. If you actually have to think about stuff the SC thinks you are a retard trying to rememeber how to say "back aisle".

Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

            I wish porn had subtitles.
