There's something about cruise ships that make people dumb. There's something about the daily d[r]eck sales that make people dumber. Here are a few gems from a deck sale of cocktail rings.

"Size 7 is smaller than size 8? I thought it was the other way around."

Said by a woman with large sausage fingers. "Why are all these rings so teeny-tiny?"

"You're looking at the size 3 tray, Ma'am. You need the size 9 rings at the other end of the counter."

This is clearly wrong, but it's not as dumb as it sounds. Some things do have progressively higher numbers for progressively smaller sizes. Steel crochet hooks (the kind you use with thread) are one example. Size 0 is relatively huge. Size 15 and up are so tiny they look like dental instruments.

I know what you're saying, Sparky. However, this was said by a man who probably had no knowledge of crochet hooks.

...but might have knowledge of wires or cables. I have some Gauge 4 cable which is frickin' heavy. Normal mains cable is something like Gauge 18, I forget precisely.

Or piercings - 00 gauge is huge, and 18 gauge is tiny. Just sayin.
