I work in social services (and it's my first post here other than my intro, so be gentle!
).
I really don't know what was wrong with clients today. I kept having clients call (our office is a call center) to ask if their benefits had been restored because they had just turned in their verifications.
OK, you turned in your verifications. Fair enough. However, depending on whether you mailed them in or walked them into an outlying district office, it's going to take 2 business days minimum for those to get routed or mailed to our office, at which time they still have to be sorted in our clerical department, scanned into our electronic file system, and routed to the correct worker, not to mention processed by said worker (who is likely to be slammed with a metric ton or two of paperwork for other cases).
Contrary to popular belief, I can't just wave my magic wand and make those benefits magically appear. The verifications have to be physically in the office before we can do anything, and that can take anywhere from a few days to a week, depending on the volume of mail we have in clerical.
I must have been asked "Why don't I have my benefits yet? I turned in my papers yesterday," about five million times today. Really, your case is not the only case in this office. Give it at least a week!!

Truthfully, we can go out of our way and circumvent the whole assignment process if it's an emergency situation, but go out of my way for an EW? Not bloody likely!!
