Wonder what that movie's about.

I rented a movie from the video store today, shortly before my friend called. Then we had this conversation.

HD:
FWCIMT: Friend Who Can't Interpret Movie Titles.

FWCIMT:"Where are you?"
HD:"Movie store, just got a movie."
FWCIMT:"What movie?"
HD:"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford."
FWCIMT:"What's it about?"
HD:"..."
FWCIMT:"..."
HD:"..."
FWCIMT:"..."
HD:"How Jesse James got shot."
FWCIMT:"Oh, cool! Who killed him?"



Obviously, I had no recourse. I had to tell him that it was Genghis Khan.

Next time, please use spoiler alerts if you're going to ruin a movie for everyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Though the alternative answer to "What's it about?" could be "Brad Pitt"

Now if I was your FWCIMT, I wouldn't have asked the first question, but I certainly would have assumed that "Robert Ford" was the auteur of the film, not a part of the title: when I hear a title "Blah by Foo", the obvious assumption is that Foo was the creator of the work called Blah. My next question would have been "So why do you think the director was a coward?"

Not trying to make a joke here. I often do creative misinterpretations deliberately as an aspect of my weird sense of humor, but in this case that's really what I thought when I read it.
