Guest comes in, does not have reservation. I ask what room type they want/if they have dicounts. I learned loong ago to say the rate as like 79+tax. Montana does not have sales tax, though. Sometimes I just can't handle guests who don't know the butt from their elbow, so I take it on myself to educate them.
SC: We stay here all of the time, and Montana doesn't have tax.
Me: Actually, Montana has travel tax. Has since I remember, although it used to be lower. And this city itself has a $1.00 city tax per night. If you stay here often, we have always charged tax unless a person in exempt.
SC: *The guests look at me like I am feeding them bull and that they don't have 2 IQ points between them." Oh this city got that city tax too, huh? Well, only government people are exempt... (duh)
People are LAME. I am about sick of this arguement. 1. typicaly "I stay here all of the time b.s. and 2.I think you wanted to try & see how dumb I was.
