  • I'm on a diet, remember?

I was chitchatting with a supervisor from another department and mentioned my low carb, high protein diet; no bread, pasta, potatoes, etc. It's REALLY HARD for me to stay away from the stuff. We chat about a few other topics and then she cheerfully tells me:

"Oh, I made a bunch of pasta salad and it's in the fridge if you want some!"

Then she made the face, covered her mouth and said:

"Oh my god that was the most stupid thing I've ever said!"

She's a cute and nice person, but just sometimes nooooot all there!

Just cause I'm curious, why did you pick a diet like this? And how long do you expect to live on said diet?

Aaah the Atkins diet.. first week I lost 12 pounds, 2nd week I lost 4, 3rd week realised I'd blown a months grocery budget in 2 weeks & couldn't afford to do it any more

Back on topic.. I have similar problems only with gluten, I'm intolerant to it so people, inc close family members, are always offering me cookies & wanting me to choose which pizza I want from dominos etc etc

My mum is getting better though... she pops round occasionally with large wedges of cheese she can't finish..... I'm on a low fat diet! I love cheese!
          Arp happens!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

            Ooh! What kind?

My Dad used to be on the atkins diet. I think he liked it, he just didn't like the fact he couldn't have bread with his hamburgers

I started doing it to support my roommate. The first week or 2 it was hard to stay away from breads, cake, cookies. It got easier. I've lost about 15lbs. I also take my multivitamins and such Now I'm going to the gym. After losing a little more weight, we can add carbs back-in as long as exercise to maintain that weight. I have to admit, I feel better than I have in years. And I found substitutes to make cookies; like milk chocolate chip cookies made with wheat gluten flour; only 5-carbs a piece! This is the first diet that's actually really worked for me.

                Any kind! I don't think I've found one I haven't liked yet
My recent cheese splurges have been on Cornish Cruncher, which is cheddar laced with diablo chilies & one of my more favourite crumbly Wenslydale ones.

                Cheese Gromit?

I'm on this diet for LIFE. Induction (Meat, meat, more meat, and tea or water with little greens) is also known as the Caveman Diet.

Is there a trick to keeping your bone density up, or do you just take lots of calcium supplements? I tend to over-do the protein myself, so any tricks would be appreciated.

Dr. Atkins didn't die from the diet. From Wikipedia:

On April 8, 2003, at age 72, a day after a major snowstorm in New York, Atkins slipped on ice while walking to work, hitting his head and causing bleeding around his brain. He lost consciousness and went into a coma on the way to the hospital. He spent nine days in intensive care, before dying of his injuries on April 17, 2003.

I don't happen to take any extra supplements, no. I have bones practically made of titanium (despite Mom having brittle bones). Only extra supplements I take is ginkgo for my depression.

We still have milk and cheese. Whole milk and heavy cream have fewer carbs than skim, so no issues there.

You sure find a lot of interesting ways to prepare chicken!
