This is one from yesterday night. A woman comes up to me and wants to know where the "sale salmon" is even though she was looking at it. She asks me where it's from and I tell her it's wild caught from Alaska, then she asks where that is. Really, where's Alaska? I tell her Alaska is part of America. She orders a pound and a half, I cut it and give it to her. I went home and thought about how much homeschooling would cost.

What is 'sale salmon' ? Does it taste anything like salmon that is on sale?
I really didn't have anything else, other than, I agree with the homeschooling. I'm this >< close to trying it myself, but I know my son doesn't have the temperament for me to try it.Make a list of important things to do today.
At the top of your list, put 'eat chocolate'
Now, you'll get at least one thing done today

Yeah, we all know that Alaska is very close to Russia because everyone there can see Russia from their back porches (apparently Russia surrounds Alaska)Quoth Can I Help Your A$$? View PostYou'd think someone that dim would know all about Alaska, what with Sarah Palin and all.

I just have to step in here .... My company sells homeschooling books and materials and we're pretty dang good at helping you figure out what you need. We consider this service a ministry (meaning we don't make a profit on it, our other books are what get us profit). So if you're thinking about homeschooling or need help with what books to get, I'll be happy to help you! I've also homeschooled for 6 years, so I've been there!Quoth tollbaby View Posthomeschooling is free, but the materials required to pass the mandatory state exams aren't. The books are damn pricey.
Sorry mods ... I know this is advertising, but since it's nonprofit, I thought it might be allowed.

Checked NJ legislation, says no standardized exams needed for homeschooling in NJ. States vary. http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?State=NJ
No argument meant, just FYI, dropping subject.

True. I was homeschooled growing up (and got a MUCH better education than would have been possible in my town otherwise), and we didn't have to take any state exams, though my mom made us take the CAT every two years, and the ACT, PSAT, and SAT twice each.Quoth Jack View PostChecked NJ legislation, says no standardized exams needed for homeschooling in NJ. Homeschooling materials can be expensive, but no worse than college textbooks, and often cheaper, especially if you find a homeschool group that does used book sales. The main cost is in time: my mom stayed at home (mostly--she is a registered nurse, and made some money doing insurance exams locally, and collecting samples for drug tests at the local high school) to teach me and my sister, and so we had all of us on a salary of no more than $30k (while our taxes still went to the local crappy school system, but I'll leave that for Fratching...) But my parents were both really committed to our education, and my sister and i both had temperaments that worked well with homeschooling (I won't pretend that it's for everyone, because it isn't).
Anyhow. Just my two cents. Or whatever.

While it is entirely up to you as to whether you homeschool your kids or not, just bear in mind that the woman in your OP is more likely a rare case.
If you get more people asking for the "sale salmon" THEN I'd be worried.

In the future, a PM to the member would be preferred. But since you didn't offer the company's name or a link, we're fine with it.Quoth Teefies2 View Post

Just an FYI to everyone: Even non-profit adverstising is usually prohibited. When in doubt, send a PM to Raps or a mod and ask permission.
If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com
