  • Wrong Hospital

    Last night I had a lady come up to the desk in the Main Lobby. She said she had tests performed by some doctor, and wanted to know where she could get the results.

    The doctor's name didn't sound familiar so I asked the operator if we had a doctor here by that name. The operator said no, and I went back out to talk to the lady. I asked her if she was sure she had the tests performed at this hospital, and she said yes. Then I asked her if she happened to remember what floor they were performed on. She didn't.

    So I asked her if she had any sort of paperwork with her, that I could look at, which she did. She pulled out a piece of scrap paper with another hospital's name and phone number hand written in blue ink. I told her she was at the wrong hospital, and showed her the paper. I let her use our phone, and she left. Hopefully she managed to find the right hospital, and got her test results.

    I'm always slightly baffled by people who wind up at the wrong hospital. I know there are several in close proximity, but there are signs up everywhere saying which hospital you're at, so I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to figure out.

    You'd be amazed how many people think we're a different supermarket in the area than the one he/she is actually shopping in. I simply don't get how someone could be somewhere and think the whole time they're in a different place (especially when there are signs with OUR store's name/hospital in your case all over!)

      Heh, we just moved into a location that was once inhabited by one of our competitors. Said competitor moved across the street. I've had so many people stop and ask me when *competitor* started carrying fabric. Um, they didn't, you're in *our store*.

        People get confused alot, I get SC's that say they purchased an item from our store location at a around a certain time. Look up their info on file and see they purchased it long before at a different store

          I have a great wrong hospital story, but it happened to my daughter. This is the conversation, as she recounted it.

          Secretary = secretarial sort of employee
          D = my awesome daughter
          CC = confused caller

          Secretary: Can you take this call? This person seems to be very confused.
          D: Sure.
          D: Hi, this is [name] in radiology, can I help you?
          CC: Yes, I'm trying to get the results of a CT scan.
          D: What is your doctor's name?
          CC: [Name.] (Daughter is not familiar with this person.)
          D: Okay, well, what is the patient's name?
          CC: [Name.]

          Daughter can find no record under that name. Several more questions follow. Date of procedure? Type of procedure? The caller has all the answers but Daughter can find no record of it.

          D: What is the name of the animal?
          CC: What animal?
          D: The animal who had the CT scan.
          CC: The CT scan was for my wife!

          .....wait for it ....

          D: Sir, this is a veterinary hospital.

            Even funnier if the name of the hospital is something like [City] Animal Hospital, which you know the secretary said when she answered the phone.
            Seriously, how does someone even make a phone call like that? How do they NOT KNOW they're talking to an animal hospital??

              Daughter works in a veterinary teaching hospital affiliated with a major university, and he secretary would have just answered the phone "radiology." The university also does have a human hospital. No clue how the poor caller got routed to the wrong hospital, but once inside the system it would have been easy to get passed along from one department to the next with no one realizing.

              No real brain burp except on the part of whoever put him through to the wrong hospital in the beginning; or maybe he did call "State University Veterinary Hospital" instead of "State University Hospital."

              Anyway a good example of how a small mistake can lead to a world of confusion.

                Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification!
