  • What do you think "Please slide card" means?

This is a stupid thing I've seen customers do lately. A few people have taken their debit or credit card out to pay, but just stare blankly at the screen. This is usually what they tell me after a few seconds:

"It just says Please slide here. What does that mean? What do I do?"

What do you think it means?!? Seriously, this has been a new low for customer stupidity.

Well, they're obviously fresh off the flying saucer, and don't know how Earth technology works yet.

I get people asking if they should hit the credit button to use their card as a credit. No! Whatever you do DO NOT hit the credit button to have your card go through as credit! Evil, evil things happen!
I would have a nice day, but I have other things to do.

sorry Whiskey, I had to continue this to it's logical conclusion.

And as for the flying saucer thing, I'm sure my lizard could figure out this technology. She just chooses to have me buy her snackies for her instead, because the bank doesn't issue cards to lizards.

What's the difference in using a debit card as debit vs. credit? Other than using a PIN vs actually signing for the charge? I'm curious.

Isn't it that credit charges the bank like $.xx per transaction, or is it the other way around?

Honestly, credit cards will lead us to that time in the future where everything is credit-based and there's no such thing as hard modern currency.

Well, yeah. Your lizard isn't fresh off the flying saucer. They've been here a while.

Debit comes out pretty much immediately. Credit takes a few business days (most of the time). Debit charges an extra fee (sometimes), Credit doesn't. More places accept Credit then Debit. You can get cash back with debit, if you try to get cash with credit it is considered a 'cash advance' and the fees are astronomical. There are a few other things I think, but that is what I can think of for the differences between Debit and Credit.

Where I work you sign if you pay with credit, and below the signature line there are two buttons: ENTER and CLEAR. I get so many "Do I hit 'Enter'?" and people who won't even bother pressing either button after signing their name. I get that "Clear" will sometimes mean "enter" for whatever reason, but when you have "Enter" next to it shouldn't it be obvious?

And then there's the ones who sign it, press 'Clear,' and then wonder why it's still asking them to sign it. No, you d*mb*ss, press the one marked 'Done!'
