The other day a guy showed me a stapler he was interested in and asked a question about it.
SC: Does this come with the post?
Me: The what?
SC: The post to hold the papers.
Me:
All it comes with besides the stapler itself is a small sample pack of standard staples.
SC: But does the stapler come with the post?
He tried to explain that "the post" (which he was also interchangeably calling "the clip") was something that held the paper in place while you stapled it.
For the life of me, I could not understand what he was getting at. While we have all shapes, sizes, and colors of staplers, they all work basically the same way. I don't think I need to explain that bit. I have never seen or heard of this "post" or "clip" he was talking about. As near as I could tell, he wanted something that held the sheets together for him, but it wasn't a separate paper clip or binder clip it was PART of the stapler.
And he was getting more and more frustrated with me and was stubbornly refusing to go into any further detail. Eventually I just gave up and told him I didn't know what he meant, whereupon he heaved a frustrated sign and stomped off.
First the guy who didn't understand what tissues were, and now a guy who can't grasp the concept of stapling. I'm getting all the winners lately....
