  • Bread Slices Can be Made BIGGER!

Our bakery has loaves of various breads. Not uncommon. They also have a bread slicer with different thickness settings. Also not all that uncommon.

I was in scan today (as I seem to be quite often recently), test scanning the bakery when a customer comes up to me and we had this lovely exchange:

    C: Customer
    M: Me :3

    C: "Excuse me, miss?"

M: Turns to look, "Yes? What can I do for you?"

C: "Well, you have these sliced breads over here, but I wanted something with thicker slices..."

M: "Oh! Well that's no problem. You can take one of the loaves of unsliced bread over to one of the girls in bakery, and they can slice it up a bit thicker for you."

C: "Well... I really like this loaf right here, but the slices are too thin... I was wondering if there was a way to make them thicker."

M: Thinking she just didn't quite understand me "Yes, and the bakery can definitely slice a loaf of thicker slices if you'd like to take one of these..." holds up whole loaf "up there."

C: "But why can't they just make thicker slices out of this one?"

    M" ".... Because it's already sliced?"

C: "But you said they could make them thicker..."

M: Finally given up "They have to use whole loaves because the slices jam the machine."

C: "Oh! Alright, then!" Grabs loaf and heads over to the bakery

    M:

Wasn't sucky, just... Wow. I stood there for a minute wondering how one could fuse the bread back together in order to slice it over again. Gave me a good giggle, though.
I have CDO. It's kinda like OCD, but the letters are where they should be!

After Tuesday, even the calendar goes W T F...

I'm not certain what was worse. That she actually thought it was possible to do this for even a moment, or that me saying that slices jam the machine is what finally made her accept it wasn't going to happen.

I was really grasping at straws when I said that. I was hoping she would either realize how stupid what she had said was and would go away, or that she'd accept it as fact and go away. Didn't matter which, I just really wanted her to go away because she made my brain hurt.

This is the same breed of woman who would come into Kinkos and want a landscape formated picture changed to a portrait formatted one without cropping it or changing it in any way.

Evidently these people come from a planet where the laws of physics are different than the ones here on Earth.

I'd like to know where they come from. My roommate keeps insisting that me saying "yes" or "no" doesn't change the actual reality of the situation, but with some of the customers I get, I SWEAR it has to work eventually.

Next maybe you can explain to me why my stylist can't cut my hair to make it longer.

But we don't because lots of it's disgusting.

Well, duh, you have to run the loaf through the un-slicer first!!!!!!

I really don't get how people can be so clueless and yet manage to dress, feed themselves and navigate to the store...........
There's no such thing as a stupid question... just stupid people.

I think they just wing it, and manage to get there alive. It would explain the increase in car accidents around my neck of the woods. Those are the ones that didn't quite make it to the store.

Back when I was a kid, we used to make this glue out of flour and water. Maybe she could take the bread home, use the flour/water glue to fuse the slices back together, then bring it back to be resliced.

Though at that point, wouldn't it just be easier to slice it herself?

That would probably be way too much effort for her.

This is the kind of person who makes my sister ask, "how did they survive childhood?"

They survived childhood because of home-baked bread they could slice as thick as they wanted to?
Nahhhh...they were a fluke and managed to stay under the radar.
