  • Well what does 8-3.9 Jello $1.49 mean then?

My last customer of the day of course had to be this nut. She comes on my line with among other things 8 boxes of Jello pudding. She asks me to test scan one because she believes it's 8 for $1.49 so I do the test scan and I tell her it's $1.49. She says there was a sign under it that said 8 dash 3.9 $1.49. So I have a manager check it out. She comes back and says it's $1.49 there's no special on it. Then the woman gives her a look and says "but there was a sign that said 8 dash 3.9 for $1.49. What does that mean?" The manager says there's 8 boxes in a unit when it gets put on the shelf, and it's a 3.9oz box. There's no sales on Jello this week. The customer refuses to get them and says that it's bad advertising and how are you supposed to know what's on sale. I kindly tell her that all sales are shown on yellow tags on the shelves (and it says that all over the store and our circular). She then claims they are 3 for $1.00 at another store, to which I think for cheap store brand gelatin maybe, but definitely not special variety Jello pudding.

At least they were reading the price tag (this time).

I hate simple people!!!! it is not a dash it is a minus sign

      8-3.9 $1.49 is very simple

      8-3.9 = 4.1

You get 4.1 packages of jello for $1.49
Except they don't sell .1 packages, unless it is a 10 pack so to get full values, you need to by 41 packages for $14.90.... still A great deal. as that is what 41 x 8 =328Cups..... that is less than 50 cents per serving atually my calulator is saying .045 cents per cup.... Where is your store I need me some puddings
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

Hate to break the news to you, but the price of the pudding was $1.49 each. The 8-3.9 referred to 8 3.9 ounce packages in one unit when they are put on the shelf, and they are $1.49 each.

Really, that *is* a poor label. I would have wanted to know what it meant too.

A better way of representing it would be "$1.49 for 8x3.9oz", if there's space for it.

Our labels are made so that the unit amount is tiny and not really that noticeable unless you look really hard. The price is big and bold and the size is next to it smaller and not in bold. This woman was either looking for the deal of her life and thought she'd try or she was reading way too hard.
