So I'm in the office when our office manager tells me to pickup the phone...
Me "Hi,this is Freddie, what can I do for you today?"
SC "I need you to tell me how much to charge for a grazing lease"
Me "Well ma'am I have no idea"
SC "Why not?"
Me "Uh,because we don't do that"
SC "What do you mean, you don't do that?"
Me "Ma'am,we're in real estate, not livestock"
SC "But it involves land!"
Me "Yes,listing or selling it but not grazing leases"
SC "Well why not?"
Me "Because it's not our business"
SC "So you can't tell me what to charge"
ME "No ma'am,I suggest you call the county or the state & ask what they charge"
SC "I don't want to call the county, you should be able to tell me"
Me "Again ma'am,we don't deal with that.Maybe you could suggest a price & take it from there?"
SC "What should I suggest?"
Me "Again ma'am,I have no idea"
SC "Why not?" (I can hear her voice starting to get strained)
Me "Because WE'RE...NOT...IN...THAT...BUSINESS"
SC "Well I just don't understand that, why you wouldn't know about grazing leases"
I'm startin' to see this is going nowhere fast,so I say "Ma'am,here's the number for the county, call them & ask how much they charge"
So she starts to say something else so I rattle off the number & say goodbye.
I know the county doesn't deal in grazing leases,it's strictly the purview of the federal gov't,but between two individuals it's basically whatever they agree to.If I wanted to lease out my 2.5 acres I could charge whatever I could get some fool to pay, there's no set price.
But I still,at my age, can't understand why some people have trouble with basic declarative statements.
