  • Know Your Presidents

Okay, not gonna lie - I registered just so I could post this story, because it cracks me up every time I tell it.

These teenage girls come up to my counter to pay for things, and, as is often common with this breed, one pays in almost $30 of singles - and ends up using a $2 bill. One of her friends asks to look at it, and this is, I kid you not, what followed.

Teenage Customer: "Who's this?" (pointing to the portrait of Thomas Jefferson - whose name is right below, though in small print, so I give her a pass)
    Me: "Jefferson."
TC: "But he's not a president."
    Me: *blink*
TC (to her friends): "He's not a president, right? ...And he's not even pretty."

God, what happens when she finds out the guy on her $10 bill wasn't president either? Wait, why am I saying either - in all her years at school, she never made it to #3 on the list of U.S. presidents? I mean, the guy's no Millard Fillmore. I don't even want to tell her about Benjamin Franklin - her poor head might explode.

My friend's sister had the best response ever to this story, though: "I wish I could afford to be that dumb." Sad, but oh so true.

No, he just ran his own dry-cleaning business and had a wife named Wheezy.

And if she thinks prettiness is a requirement to be President, then her historical frame of reference must begin and end with Obama and maybe Dubya. My sympathies.

Don't forget Clinton. Women loved him in the oral office.

Let's give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she thinks you need to be pretty to be put on currency....nope. She's still really dumb. Well, at least I tried.

Prettiness as a requirement to be President? Abraham Lincoln was no looker! Neither were most of the Presidents, to be fair.

            Handsome Presidents, let's see...Obama, yes...Clinton, sure...Kennedy, definitely...Franklin Pierce, yes...that's pretty much it.

Hopefully she'll outgrow the shallowness. Beauty is as beauty does (ie, not much!).

I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

The Roosavelts. They were both nice looking men. Always thought Abe had charm though; very contemplative face.
