  • Children and Fish

Please do not give the fish bag to your child unless they are over the age of 15 or very mature. Stick it in the cart or when she starts twisting the bag and letting it spin around, take it away from her. There was a reason why the bag was full of air and now due to her messing with it, it has barely any air in it. It also is not surprising when you return and tell me that the fish that died had one of its eyes pop out. Seriously? The way your precious daughter was shaking the bag, I am surprised they are not all dead.

Anyway, don't give me dirty looks when I suggest putting it in the cart.

Poor little fish. Why do people treat living things like that? And am I evil because I want to beat the living snot out of them (the parent, for giving the bag to the kid)?

That's pretty sick. I hope she didn't get a replacement and will be refused sales in the future!

Reminds me of the poor fish in Finding Nemo. Some children should not be allowed near animals.

My son's 5 and knows to be careful with the fish bag. That parent is an idiot!

My fishtank has become a fish orphanage of sorts. In college I find a lot of people with fish that were given to them as gifts without any sort of care instructions or anything. Or they go out thinking a fish will be a good idea and have no will to care for them.

The unintelligent of the lot end up killing their fish. The intelligent of the group tend to either look up the care needs online and follow them very closely, or they just walk down the dorm hallway and ask me what to do. I give them supplies, instructions, do's, do not's, etc. Some of the girls rushing sororities didn't have the time to take care of their fish properly and literally begged me to take their fish. Had space in the tank, they worked well in a community tank with a betta, sure, I'll take your fish.

But just being unnaturally cruel to your fish out of ignorance or just sheer stupidity...that really gets to me. Those poor fish. And these are COLLEGE STUDENTS that do this. Now granted they don't intentionally shake a bag up and down or fiddle with it, but really, what did you think your fish would do if you didn't feed it for three weeks?

And no...FOR THE LAST TIME..."Squishy" does NOT LIKE VODKA.

15? When I was 8 I knew better than that! Of course, I grew up with fish, and my parents taught me how to be careful to hold the bag so that it wouldn't get jostled around in the car too much on the way home.
