Arrogant Co-Worker passes Pregnant Co-Worker in the walkway outside my cube. PCW is due in six days--obviously pregnant--pregnant even to the point where a man could feel comfortable asking the dangerous "When's the baby due?" question. ACW looks slightly confused and asks a question. She doesn't make a statement of surprise or good-natured teasing--she is genuinely confused...

ACW: You haven't had your baby yet?
PCW: (looks at her belly, looks back up at ACW) Uh... Nope. She's still in there.

That was the entirety of the conversation. As they walked away, I muttered to myself, "Heeeeere's your sign."

(I know that's a co-worker instead of a customer story, but I couldn't curse her out because it was just stupidity.)

Granted, women still look about 5-6 months preggers after the drop-- but ... It could have been phrased better from ACW!
"Is it the lie that keeps you sane? Is this the lie that keeps you sane? What is it?Can it be?Ought it to exist?"
"...and may it be that I cleave to the ugly truth, rather than the beautiful lie..."

What's so hard about that? I did with both kids. Women work till they are 5 minutes apart every day. We're freaking strong that way

If the baby shows up while you are on the clock... I wonder if you can put in a comp claim? :P
There's no such thing as a stupid question... just stupid people.

When I was in the hospital TWO DAYS after my daughter was born (10 pounds) my hospital-roommate's father, who was visiting, asked me when my baby was due.

I was so hurt and angry I couldn't speak. Hey, I was hormonal. I just gave him a dirty look and ignored him. He remained clueless.

Yeah, she's a tough one. She likes to jog, but she can't do that at the moment, so we tease her that she'll walk herself to the hospital after her water breaks.

Back in my grocery days, I had a co-worker who worked until the day before her scheduled C-section, asked for that day and the next to be her regular days off, and returned to work the third day. Yes, not only did she not take any pre or post birth maternity leave (we didn't offer paid maternity leave, just 12 weeks excused unpaid as required by FMLA), she worked 38 hours the week she gave birth.
