  • Yes, bringing the broken thing with you to the repair shop is a good start.

A few days ago a lady called us about her TV; she was having issues with her remote. This could be for a few reasons: a faulty remote, the wrong code (if it's a universal), user error or a legit problem with the TV. So, I tell her to bring in the TV and remote.

So she brought in the TV. Just the TV. No remote.

When I asked where the remote was she gave me this incredulous look and told me it was at home, like I was the greatest dolt in the world for asking.

Okay. You have an issue with a remote control. What am I supposed to WITHOUT the remote here??

Do you sell TVs? You could have pulled out anything that looked like a remote (even if it wasn't), said it was definitely a TV problem and she'd have to buy a new one.

Well, a remote is not supposed to be that remote.
