This morning on the paper route, I was out of it. I'm not sure I really should have been driving. I didn't sleep well, and was tired.
Background: on Sundays, the paper comes in two sections: the news section, and the ad section. So, I will have a bundle of the ad section balanced on the dashboard, with the news section on my passenger seat, and I will grab one of each for each customer as I go.
Well, after getting through the first set of bundles, I had two leftover ad sections, which usually means that I screwed up somewhere and gave someone two news sections instead of one of each. No problem, since I actually loop back through the start of my route.
Also, I remembered I had a Sunday-only customer start last weekend. I couldn't remember if I'd gotten them, so I made a note to check as I looped back as well.
After doing the loop, I came back up to my first couple newspaper tubes. Looked in one. Had the news section, but no ads. Looked in the next. Had the news section, but no ads. Dang, I really started off well. At least I'd accounted for the two extra ad sections. Fixed those, and went to check on my Sunday-only.
Looked in his tube. An ad section, but no news section. Hmmm. Looked in the tube next to his. A news section, but no ad section.
Yep, really on a roll.
I fixed those, and then went to the next tube just in case it turned out someone was screwing with me and taking single sections out of all the tubes. The next tube turned out fine. All was well from then on out, but yeah...first four customers of the morning I really screwed up. Good thing I went back to double-check them!
