  • If I should Brain Burp before I wake...

Okay, since I wasn't fully awake, you have to cut me some slack here!

Notes: Hubs is a security officer. He usually works nights. He frequently works at a site on my paper route. When he he is at this site, I bring him fresh coffee when I'm out on my route.

This morning, I was woken up by Hubs arrival. This was my groggy thought process:

    Hmm? Oh, Hubs is home.
    Yay! I love Hubs!
Oh...I was going to get him coffee. Dammit.
I forgot to bring him coffee when I was out on the paper route. I hope he's not too upset.
OMG I FORGOT TO DO THE PAPER ROUTE!!!

I shot straight up in bed. Hubs poked his head in the door and before I could say anything...

Hubs: "Don't...freak...out. I'm just here to use the toilet. I called [Boss] and he gave me approval to leave the site."

    Me: "Wha...?"

(Note: This site is nearby in our neighborhood, and we're closer than any convenience store bathroom.)

I looked at the time. 1:45am. My alarm wouldn't go off until 2:30. I promptly went back to sleep.

    Bonus:
A couple days ago, we were staying at the motel. After a long day at work, we were watching TV. I was tired and passed out...I think it was around 6pm. When I woke up at 7:30, I could not figure out (1) where Hubs was, (2) why my alarms never went off, and (3) why the newspaper didn't call me when I missed the route. It wasn't until after I texted Hubs to ask where he was that I realized it was 7:30 PM instead of 7:30 AM, and that Hubs was at work and I hadn't missed the paper route.

It is odd how your brain and body can fall into a routine. It find it amazing how the smallest thing can easily throw off this cycle.

Don't worry. I'm sure we have all been there and done that.

I to this day do not know how Mom managed to do this but she woke Dad up to go to work. Only after he got ready and drove 30 minutes to work to find the parking lot empty did he realize it was not 6:30 am. When he got back home he realized Mom woke him up 2 hours early. This was before car radios displayed the time.

        Great FSM I hate that.

Back in the mid 80s I was working as a security guard and living in a bunker cinderblock duplex where the bedroom only had tiny little slitlike windows and was in a thicket of trees so it was dark all the time in there. More than once I woke up in a panic because I saw the clock reading 530 or 630 and was confused and thought I slept through pretty much my entire shift. That is actually when I started sleeping with the TV on so I could see there was programming [no cable, so at about 2 am it turned to snow until 6 am]

I've done that a couple of times. Usually when I have to get up at some ungodly hour and so have gone to bed while it was still light out... so I wake up sometime shortly after the time when I need to have left, it's dark either way, and I can't figure out whether it's AM or PM until I've completely woken up and flipped out a bit. Then it takes forever to get back to sleep >_<

I've only had a few instances of "ZOMG NOOOEZZZ" in regards to wake-ups... I usually stay up on times I don't want to do that on.

I've done it. I used to work 11pm to 7am in one city and 5pm to 10pm in another and was just so messed up.

This is why I don't look at the time if I wake up in the middle of the night. It's too hard to go back to sleep because I lie there thinking "I only have another 2 hours to sleep..." or whatever.

Once, though, I thought I'd missed the alarm, didn't look closely at the clock & thought it read 7:30. I rushed through getting ready for work and got downtown in record time. The guard in the lobby said "oh, you're early today." I looked at my watch: It was 7:20 AM. I didn't have to be at work until 8:30. When I had looked at the clock, it must have read 6:30, not 7:30.

This sort of thing happens to me all the time. I don't normally work weekends, but every now and then (usually on a saturday morning) I bolt awake at 5 AM in a foaming panic because I am convinced I am late for work.

I don't work weekends at all, and I've had a Saturday or two (and the odd Sunday) where I've woken up at 9am and started to panic and not have any idea what day of the week it was.

I do this nearly every morning when I wake up about 30 seconds before my alarm and end up panicking thinking I've missed my alarm and I am late for work... and then the alarm goes off...

The other day I did the other and didn't wake up until an hour after my alarm went off... that morning I thought I still had a few minutes before the alarm went off . bah.

I don't suppose it helps to tell you I get up at the crack of 2 p.m. & then laze around the house for the rest of the day? If so, I'll just keep quiet!

I once lost a chance to rent a room because I thought it was 6pm. It was 6am.

There have been many nights in the past few months where I'd be woken up within an hour or so of falling asleep. What weirds me out is my iPod still on cause I put it on a sleep timer set for 2 hours. Thus waking to hear my music still on is disorienting.
