  • Come back tomorrow...

This was a couple of years back, but I still tell it to newbies.

The last Friday 13th movie came out the day before Valentine's day (which, incidentally, was Friday 13th) and I was on the elusive Box Office shift. A girl comes up to me.

Girl: One student for Friday 13th please.
    Me: Do you have ID?
    Girl: Sure.

She passes me an ID card for a local college (Sixth Form College, for Americans reading, is 16-19, occasionally with evening classes for mature students), which does have her date of birth on it, which was Valentine's day, her 18th birthday was the next day.

Me: I'm afraid you'll have to come in tomorrow to see this movie.
    Girl: (confused) Why?
Me: The film is rated 18, and tomorrow is your 18th birthday.
    Girl: Oh...

You feel bad when it's a matter of hours (this was about 9pm) but the law is the law.

Such a shame. Three more hours and she'd have been able to go to the movie. It's fairy easy to hang about somewhere for a while and come back in three hours.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

The only places open that time of night that you'd want to stay that long are the clubs, and they'd have bouncers keeping anyone under 18 out by then :/

But it is daft when people:
      1) Don't check the certs
      2) Think we only check the year.
