  • How'd You Manage That?

One of the Call Canter Girls next to my group stretched and cracked her neck

DumbGirl: *gasp* DONT DO THAT! YOU'RE GONNA PULL A MUSCLE IN YOUR BELLY!
    CCG: ????
DG: Once, I was on a treadmill and I pulled a muscle in my belly and it hurt which is why you shouldn't do that to your neck.
    CCG: ......umm......ok???

How special do you have to be to pull a muscle in your stomach??? I mean, is that even possible????? Even if it is possible, what does that have to do with cracking your neck? How can doing anything to your neck affect your abdomen???? That girl made my head hurt....

    After DG left....

Other Girl: Omg Gina is so freaking stupid she makes me violent!
CCG: I know! What the heck was she even talking about with the treadmill and pulling muscles?

I felt kinda bad for her because the other girls were making fun of her, but good lord she made my brain cry!

If you have an unstable spine like I do, it's possible. I've been dealing with a strain for several months now.

I haven't had that happen from stretching, but I have managed to somehow pull *some* abdominal muscle a few times before (quite recently, actually) -- my guess would be the diaphragm, as it "twinges" if I cough when in that state.

If it's a muscle, it can be injured. Just not by your neck cracking, though.

I pulled an intercostal once when I had pneumonia. I was leaning over to the side to get something and started coughing. Sat up and....OUCH!!

Of course, I was coughing so much and so hard with that, that I broke a blood vessel in my eye, too.

I once sneezed really hard and pulled a muscle in my back!

I did that but put my neck out for 6 weeks. Sneezing can be dangerous. Also gave myself a concussion when I sneezed so hard I richoched my head of a solid oak headrest, that one I have yet to live down.

Weird how easy it is for simple bodily functions to go wrong, isn't it?

A friend of mine once managed to crack a rib from a serious coughing fit.

I once sent an office colleague into hysterics by having a sneezing fit & have it gently move my office chair back by an inch or so every sneeze, until I ended up bumping into the wall behind me.

And then there was this afternoon, where I was stretching out after an exam & sneezed half-way through. Any idea how you can stretch out a pulled muscle about 4 or 5 inches below your collar-bone?

Oh, ouch, I've done that! The worst flu/cold/deathrattle I ever had, I was playing a video game, paused it to lean over and cough (I had tons of chest congestion to the point that it took me about an hour each morning to clear it so I could breathe properly, and would cough all day long, so this was a nasty coughing fit), and when I sat back upright and stretched those ribs out...OH GOD THE PAIN. Hurt for about 2 months or so as it healed. I had so much trouble trying to sleep because every time I would FINALLY get comfortable, I'd feel the need to cough, and I could only cough while sitting upright and holding a pillow to my torso and bending over it.

And last year I managed to pull every muscle in my left side when I fell out of the truck at work. My reflex was to grab the door handle and ease myself to the ground with just one arm. That took about a week to heal, and I felt so weak. My entire left arm was weak and sore, as well as the side torso and abdominal muscles.

I gave myself a nasty case of whiplash when I was startled by a lightning flash once. Everyone said I just froze up and when I relaxed they could see I was in pain. My family still likes to tease me about that one.
