  • Fun with Daylight Savings

First, my own brain burp. Since my phone automatically adjusts the time at 2am, it messes up my alarm. I woke up at 4am. At first I panicked. Then, I realized that was the old 3am, and since we aren't supposed to change our clocks until after the paper route (to keep us in sync with the printing press), I relaxed and played on the computer for a bit and figured I was okay. Then I panicked again because I realized that I still had to adjust the time to account for the upcoming day shift I was working, and I really couldn't relax. Ugh. Needless to say, my plans to go to the gym between jobs did not happen.

So, I'm working day shift (something I seldom do, but I'm covering for a sick CW), and I've fielded at least half a dozen calls from people trying to figure out what time it is.

    One of the fun ones:
    Guest: "What time is it?"
    Me: "It's 11:20am."
Guest: "Oh, so you don't do Daylight Savings here then?"
Me: "We do. It's 11:20am. That's with Daylight Savings."
Guest: "Oh, hrmgle." *that was the sound of her brain BSOD-ing, I think*

We have quite a few late checkouts. I have to be forgiving today, I guess.

I was waiting for DST stories today. I seem to be doing OK with the time, but when dealing with the date today, I was 2 days behind. The only thing I noticed was that people seemed to be confused that the mall was closed already. They also stayed in my store an hour later than they usually do before going home on a Sunday night. I think dusk is their cue, and now it happens at 7:00.
"Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably
