  • Do you think you're a little late on that one?

Had a customer at the discount store asking about snow gear. Yes. Very specifically she was looking for ski equipment.

Now, we did have quite a lot of winter merchandise after Christmas was over but when the spring seasonal merchandise came in the rest of the winter stock was clearanced or sent back to the warehouse for next year.

I could see wanting to get a good deal on ski equipment, but this last couple of days have been in the high 70's. That alone should tell you that you missed the boat on that one.

Send 'em our way - we had a great start to spring yesterday - woke up to snow on the ground, snowed all day non-stop, had about five inches on the deck by this morning.

And today it's a gorgeous sunny day and it's beginning to melt

No one can say the pacific northwest has boring weather.

    Madness takes it's toll....
    Please have exact change ready.

I buy all my ski equipment in March/April. Have gotten a few good deals that way, especially on last year's models that they're turning over in time for this year's to come in.

But I usually go to a specialty store.

Oh, that reminds me... I need new boots. One of the buckles on mine rusted out this winter... Research time!

(disclaimer: I'm a former ski racer who lusts after the top equipment and has been known to throw myself down some of the craziest slopes on mountains. My advice comes from years of experience in buying ski equipment and having to save money SOMEWHERE due to the rising costs of lift tickets and my addiction to the slopes.)

        These days I don't know.

Local Zellers got rid of all thier summer stuff the last weekend in july, and started advertising gloves, mittens, parkas, etc. by august 1st.
Same store got rid off all the winter stuff and was back to pushing bathing suits and sunscreen right after new years day.

It wouldn't surprise me even the tiniest little bit to walk into a store today and see a pile of christmas crap with a sign advertising "Only 21 shopping months left till christmas 2013"
