  • Major brainfart: Lost my paycheck

Generally having a bad morning, didn't sleep well the last few days, kinda groggy in the morning. My wife suddenly ask me to drop her off to her job this morning on my way to work. I had my paycheck in my front jacket pocket cause I couldn't deposit it in the ATM last night. Got to work and couldn't find it. Checked my car, surrounding area, and didn't see it anywhere.

Good thing my boss is cool about it, called the accountant to stop payment and will issue me a new check. Never happened to me before ever, goes to show you how a good night's sleep is soon needed.

Direct deposit is really convenient, hubby (Flag Man) and I both have it.

I use it and it has saved many a headache around the holidays when a holiday would fall on a payday. I would still get mine in the bank that day while those coworkers who didn't have DD had to wait until the next truck came in (which would usually be the following day) to get their checks.

I have had direct deposit since 1967. It is great.

If it makes you feel any better, I once managed to lose a student loan check for about $5000.

              Twice.

I accidentally dropped $500 cash into the bin and then emptied it into the garbage.

Only once so far, thank goodness.

Lost a $90 money order that I was supposed to pay my rent with. I was glad I had money saved in the bank but I feel for you.

At least your boss was cool with it. But I think I'll be going to direct deposit pretty soon for other reasons, not just because of your cautionary tale.

I lost 300 bucks once. Yeah, fun... I needed that money right then.

My store gave out paychecks for over two years before switching to direct deposit due to our stance on "caring for the environment and saving paper."

I gotta say, this NEVER happened to me before though, and whenever I got my check, in the time that it took me to take it to the bank, I always imagined a scenario like this and never took my eyes off that paper. I'm glad that direct deposit has solved that problem! Now I don't have to take time out of my day and pick up my check. It'll be right there in my account waiting for me!

About 1990, my wife and I bought a house, and at closing, we gave a certified check for the down payment to the seller.

The next day, we received a panic call from, uh, who? The seller, the agent or someone (it's been a while): the seller had lost the $60k check. I forget the details of the resolution, but somehow the original was voided and a new check issued. But seriously, dude, how do you lose a check like that?
