  • Punching down analog lines..

So MaBell finally fixed one of my location's analog line so I needed to go back and punch down the analog line to where the port on the 110 block that goes out into the sales floor.

I punch it down on both ends and go out to the floor to test - no dial tone with my test phone.

No biggie - go back, clean them out and repunch.

    No dialtone.

Hmm, cut the wires down a little, repunch.

    No dialtone.

I spent over an hour trying to figure out why I am not getting a dial tone - when I connect my buttset to the 66 block it gets a dial tone and can make calls.

Then I switched my analog phone w/ a different one.

Yep - my tester phone is broken.

Been there, done that, and have the 96VAC shocks to prove it.

      There's a reason I always have 2 of every testing tool - I'm paranoid.

And still twitching from the last shock.

Only half points unless you also manage to smoke a piece of test gear. Measuring 120VAC on 500mA?

I know a tech who licked a live phone circuit (not while it was ringing), so 48VDC.

LOL I'm not a field tech I work inside programming switches/dsl and the like, and porting numbers and such. BUT I have had field techs who have had that happen to them

          Yay for telecom discussions lol
