  • I got an ambulance ride tonight

I had bought a new lamp and the old shade was too big for it. I decided to put a bit of foil around the plastic ring on the lamp to rest the shade on. I forgot it was still plugged in because there was no bulb in it. The next thing I knew there was a huge spark and I either jumped back or was pushed back by the shock. It took me aback, but after a second I checked my hand for damage. The underside of my thumb was black. I smelled ash; it was my skin. I immediately headed for the bathroom to run water over it when I saw the crack in the skin and decided that was a bad idea. It looked really bad, and I believed time might be of the essence, so I called 911 and got paramedics sent. I just didn't know if I should drive to the ER. I had lots of fun explaining to several people what happened. I guess they thought there was a fire, not an electrical burn. And then they were all concerned about my heart and stuff, rightfully so. I got a tetanus shot and laughs at my jokes. Yes, I can be in pain and still make people laugh. I have to tell you my nurse was gorgeous. He looked so much like George Clooney. And there I was in my jammies and ridiculous bun on top of my head. Anyway, it's apparently mostly superficial, but they want me to see a plastics guy this week, as anything on the underside of the hand can cause problems. Oh, and my pm to mytical tonight was entitled just got back from malwart; had to get a big rubber glove

It doesn't hurt anymore, but now I'm afraid it's going to be all stiff and weird forever. At least I have use of my hand. I'm just sad more than anything, and because of my huge deductible I'll have bills I won't be able to pay.

Maybe it's me, but if I had that injury, I'd repeat what Dumbledore said in The Half-Blood Prince when people asked me what happened:
: "I have no time to explain now. It's a thrilling tale and I wish to do it justice..."
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

I go back to a wonderful quote from an old TV show called 'The Pretender':

"I broke it mud-wrestling. What did you do last night?"
"Bring me knitting!" (The Doctor - not the one you were expecting)

LOL, you guys. I drove 20 miles to the plastics doc this morning for him to tell me he can't tell how bad it is for 2 more weeks. So I'm supposed to go back. Add to the bills. To me it looks like a really bad popped blister now. The actual hole has scabbed over. I have feeling now; it has been sore all day whenever I touched anything. (I was instructed to leave it uncovered and function as usual). The actual injury site feels stiff. So we'll see.

I talked to my RN friend who told me if I'd had a heart episode, I'd have known by now. I think the ER docs were going to do an EKG but didn't. I have no idea if any problems will show up later, but worrying is of no use, though my mom keeps bringing it up. I think she's concerned because my brother has heart issues.

le siiiigh, FL! I'm just glad you're okay! And I'm really, really glad it didn't affect your heart, my friends have told me the same thing about being shocked. Usually any heart problems show up within a day or two after something like that. (I'd stupidly went to pull out a plug while my hand was wet. Go me.)

Hope your hand's okay though, will keep your hand in my prayers!

That sucks. I don't feel so bad about a penny in an outlet now.

Did you happen to talk about this on another forum where someone asked a heart question? Just wondering, it would be a weird coincidence.
