One I remembered today

This is an old one that I was reminded of today while talking to an old coworker. I'm sticking it here because even though it was a sighting, there was no suck to it. Just amusement.

When I worked in the gift shop in the local mall, I often went to the food court for my lunch break. That's where I overheard this gem.

Two girls (probably in their early 20s) walked in the food court entrance and were trying to decide where to eat.

G1: Do you want to go to Subway or that new Pita place?

G2: *long pause followed by confused look* Those animal people have a restaurant?

Girl 1 blinked at her for a second before bursting into laughter and explaining it to her. I came very close to choking on my sandwich since I'd just taken a bite when she asked the question and I couldn't help but to laugh.

threadjacking a bit, but that one triggered a non-work related one for me, and it really isn't long enough for it's own thread.

Ok, this was in the 80's, friend & I were going out to our favourite bar, where the music offered could vary quite a bit from week to week. She asked if I knew the band playing that week, & what type of music they played. I told her it was a new one, I'd called & they said they played "top 40's". She was quite silent for a while, then finally said "I really don't think I know any songs from the forties".

These sorts of things always amuse me to no end. Something simple, mistranslates into a massive misunderstanding. I've been guilty of it a time or two myself and wind up facepalming when I realize what I've just said.
