On Tuesday, I almost broke a $2500 percon (a scanner used to order/check in orders, amongst other things).

I was checking on something for a customer, when I accidentally dropped the percon. I picked it up, and tried to turn it back on. It stubbornly refused to do so. I took it up to IM and he couldn't get it to work. I freaked.

After much shaking of said percon, and pressing various buttons and whatnot, it finally starting working again.


IM said, "Bella, if you didn't want to do the order, all you had to do was say so!"

I understand that electronics are pretty fragile, but, if they can put a man on the Moon, for cryin' outloud, why can't they make devices like that which are going to be in rough service, more durable?

Those things are bound to get banged, bumped, and dropped, what with all of the lifting, moving, of freight, climbing up and down ladders and step stools, etc.

And while I'm at it, what about the electronic signature pads? Why can't they come up a scratch-proof plastic to prevent morons from ruining them with ball-point pens? [/soapbox]

I dropped our new $900 CC machine. I dropped it a total of 4 times. Why, because our jackass of a owner wants us to use a simple computer desk, which has everything on it. And the only spot for is right there by the phone. To top it off, the phone is right there in the way of it, so we end up knocking over a few things, so that the customer can use it. The owner is a dumbass. He could have gotten a cheaper one which we just have like Walmarts, but noooooooooo, we have to get a expensive one.

I've actually had the pleasure of being present when the scantron company was at crappy tire trying to sell thier new "guns" to our manager. He threw it across the warehouse, dropped it off the top of the racking and had it slammed by a hand jack.

Wasn't even scrached and still worked just fine. Cost of 1 unit? $9000. That's just for ONE. The store would still have had to have bought a new transmitter to get it to work.
