never really been names with me, but words, here are some of the few phrases I've uttered.

"Do you need any questions with that?"
    "How can I computer you"
"What's the problem with your problem?"
I've managed to make a joke out of myself by saying assoCHIATEs over the P.A.
I know this is kind of an older thread, but I just saw it.

Anyways...I have said too many times "let me know if you need any questions or have any help." Instead of "let me know if need any help or if you have any questions."

I once got SCREAMED at by a customer who asked to speak to "Lisa" and I told her there wasn't anyone here by that name. And there wasn't. She wanted our manager, "Aleeza." Which, yes, they do sound similar and I should have caught it, but she asked for Lisa, and there wasn't any Lisa, so I said no.
"What size can I get you, ma'am?"
    "Red."
"Okay...I'll check the red for you, but what size do you need?"
    "RED!"
    "..."

One of my co-workers once called me by his sister's name. To be fair, our names are only one consonant apart but I felt like jerking his chain.

So I looked at him, aiming for a puzzled/baffled look and said, "James, I'm going to take a few guesses here. Your sister, does she have dark hair (I'm very blond, very West European; James is very African-American)?" He admitted that she did.

"Does she, how should I put this, have darker skin than I do? Brown eyes?" Again, he had to admit that she did.

I just shook my head, "James, how could you get us confused?"
I'm sorry, the person to whom you were speaking has been replaced by a recording. Please leave your message at the sound of the beep.

I'm surprised at how many people can misspell my name.
        They put it as "Erick"
        ?????!??!?!?!
It's "Eric". I would probably expect them to ask "C or K?" But to probably make up a name...

Don't get me started on the last name.
People don't tend to mess up my last name, as it's the same as a very famous fictional boy wizard.

My dad was a twin, only time I confused them was on the phone:
        Him: Hey, is this Speedy?
        Me: Hey Dad.
        Hime: Nope, try again.
        Me: Oh, Hi Uncle Will.

The cleaner at one of my previous jobs used to call me steve, god only knows why as my name sounds nothing like steve.

This went on for about 6 months or so, it was surreal (I didn't have the heart to correct her)
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

This reminds me of a line I from a play I once saw. I can't remember it all that well, but it was set in about 1930s Egypt, with British tourists. (And I'm pretty certain that it was not Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile"!)

Anyhow, one of the tourists said: "Mohammed, can you get my bags?"
To which the porter replied: "Actually my name's not Mohammed, it's such-and-such"
Tourist: "I call all of my porters Mohammed!"

I think I've only ever come across one or two examples like this from my own life, where people deliberately call you a different name. However, for some reason, people in general so often seem to confuse my name with "Michael". (Look at my user-name). I know they both start with M, but they don't sound that similar, do they?

LOL. Mom had 4 sisters, all older... she was usually called all of the names until they finally worked down to hers.

My sister calls her two sons and I by each other's names. And sometimes it's my cat's name (they're watching him for me while I'm in Japan).

My mother has a habit of confusing me and my brother at times, but that is understandable.

What I do not understand is my boss. Me and this other guy were in the same training class. We look nothing alike, sound nothing alike, and act nothing alike. The only real similarity is we are both a tad cynical and sarcastic. His name was Patrick, mine is Donald. After the first week she managed to confuse out names, calling him Donald and me Patrick. It got so bad she decided to just start calling me Ronald and him Donald. And soon she started calling him by that name as well. Scoot to today, he has since left. And you know what, she still does it damnit!

To this day, my mom calls me the dog's name. The dead dog's name. I find it funny as hell to be called "Pep" Now considering that this dog was like a second child to my mother, and really all she had while I was at school/out and about and my dad was at work, I understand. But man it does something to your esteem to be called the dog's name.
"but we called the dog Indiana...."

William. Will. Bill. Billy. Trevor. (Had no idea how that one worked...)

Most just call me Driver or Drivey. Driver-guy too. Always freaked people out when I was younger.

                    MOM: DRIVER!!!
                    Me: *runs off*
Friends: ".... is his name Driver or Trevor?"
Friend 2: His name tag said William
Friend 3: He said he was named after his dad, whos Bill...
