So my employer has a forum. The forum has mods. I'm a mod. But I've only been a mod for a day and nobody explained any of the intricacies of it to me :P

So I deleted some OBVIOUS spam- one of those YOU CAN EARN THOUSANDS FROM HOME! posts, and apparently accidentally sent the message with a pithy Monty Python quote to the user whose post I deleted rather than to the other mods... OOPS! Then he messaged my employer quite confused as to why he had been deleted and what the heck was up with the Python reference!

....Yipe.

So, even though he's a spammer we gotta be nice to him and I had to apologize.

That's incredible. CS's highly trained battle mods are ready to take on any oncomer, weilding their special sarcasm weapons to bring even the most obnoxious tosspot to their knees.

Apologise to people like that? People abusing the bandwidth and reputation of a site that aims to help people in order to hawk their tawdry wares? Nope. I'd go for Morons in Management for this post.

In my defense, Raps, none of the other large forums I mod on has a function that automatically sends the reason entered into the deletion log to the person whose post was deleted, and the 'thou shalt be nice even to spammers' thing was not explained to me whatsoever- and I tried to get higher-up approval before deleting, but got no response....

...Yeah, maybe MIM would be the place for this. The guy claims now to be a potential advertiser for the site, which is why people are falling over each other to make nice at him- but his 'business' seems a bit dubious at best, downright scam in my cynical mind. Also was deleted for spamming under the same SN on a similar forum the same day. However, I do understand that Monty Python quotes shouldn't be sent to spammers... especially spammers who aren't bots and who pay enough attention to angrily message the company about it!

Interesting feature - I couldn't recognise the board software used over there. I can see how it would be useful, though.

Yeah, it's custom designed- $$$$$$. And being revamped, so it may not be the same after the launch of the redesigned site. They're building on the same software, but redesigning the whole site.
