One of my part time girls is really unreliable.
Most days she is anywhere from 10 minutes to half an hour late.
There have been days when she is late, and hasn't called in. I have had to call and see where she is. Then there are days when, after she's an hour late, she will call with some excuse like she slept in and she's on her way, or she has car trouble and won't be in, or she's sick. The odd time she will actually call about a half hour before she is supposed to be at work, and tell me she won't be in because she's sick.
She will come in late, then pull her "sick" routine, coughing, and holding her head or stomach, or she will complain of a migraine, and have to leave early.
Since she started working last summer, she has had a cold that doesn't seem to go away. I am not exaggerating.
She hasn't been healthy since she started. She always has a cough or complaints of the flu. She is supposed to work everyday from Monday-Friday 10am-3pm, but I think she has only ever put in about 3 full weeks since she started.
I think you get the picture. I had to explain it so you will realize why the mistake happened.
Now to my bonehead move.
On Monday, after she was a no-show, no-call again, I was fuming. I didn't bother calling, because I don't feel it's my job to get her ass out of bed.
I had enough.
I went to the HR guy and made a complaint. I told him I was tired of it. I basically told him I wanted her terminated.
He got back to me later and said they had decided to just sit her down for a talk, and have her sign a warning notice that would go in her file, telling her if she was late or pulled a no-show, no call again, she would be fired.
I went to make a notation on the schedule to let the payroll girl know she hadn't worked her shift when I discovered I had royally screwed up.
I hadn't even put her on the schedule for that day.

I made up the schedule for this week, and I was copying and pasting.
Somehow, I missed putting her shift on.
Now, if it was me, and I had been hired for a certain shift, and had been scheduled for that shift every single week, and suddenly, I was down by 1 shift, I would question it. She didn't even bother. (She can't need the money too bad if the loss of a shift didn't faze her.)
Anyway, I had to bite the bullet and go to the HR and the manager and explain that I had screwed up.
The frustrating part is, now she probably won't get spoken to at all.
This will be about the 3rd time HR was supposed to give her a warning notice about her tardiness and absentee rate, and it hasn't been done.
Moral of the story - I guess I better proofread my schedules a lot better from now on.
