When I started travelling, I had my personal banker (my bank has them) put a hold on any changes to my bank accounts. I was there when she did them, I saw the screen. She assured me that no mail outs would be sent to my old address, and that any contact the bank needed to be made would and could be through email or my emergancy contact.
Im away not even 6 months and log in to see that they have not only increased my credit card limit by a grand, but have changed my transaction account (from a free account to $5 a month)
I email her livid about the changes and she emails me back stating that I 3 letters had been sent to my old address giving me a chance to respond and decline... letter, physical letters.
So I email her back with my number in Canada asking her to call me, to talk about the fact I had print outs of the notes on my accounts. We email back and forth, her stating she is not permitted to make international calls, and me stating that I AM NOT going to be out of pocket. Finally I inform her that a copy of ALL of my proof and corrospondence (she was just as rude as I as in the emails) to the banking ombudsman with a complaint.
Not even an hour later she emailed me back saying that all changes had been reversed and charges refunded.
As soon as I came back to NZ, I dropped that bank faster than a hot coal, im now with a credit union and they have an option to stop all statements and corrospondance via email that I control not the bank.
