I did a really stupid thing

and in all actuality, I deserve probably to be fired.

Oh, I didnt mess up an SRO again, or say the wrong thing to a customer, but it falls into that 'unappropriate stuff happening at work'..

On valentines' day which is two days after my BF's birthday, I took a photo of myself. Nothing severely naughty... very tastefully done. Playboy type pose (nothing below the waist really seen save leg, but full frontal nudity).

So I sent it, he liked it, yay. However, myself and the other girl at work were talking about what we got for our BFs, and she wanted to see the photo.

This is where I get stupid, and I think you know how.

I didnt want to at first and was really reluctant, nto out of embarassement but because it was at WORK, but at her insistence, I made the screen on the cmputer REALLY small at first (Only two inches tall), and opened the email so she could see it.

She thought it was sweet and I closed the window fast. Though tnobody else had seen.

Well, today I found out someone HAD seen it and complained.

I spent all day waiting in dread of the impeding lecture, and was pleasantly relieved when she just said "I dont know what to say, just dont do it at work."

So a breath of relief, but I'm still mortified. And rumors are going about work (though I'm not sure what type really). I'm not worried about the rumors, or even someone had seen my picture. mostly about if there will be further repercussions.

So everyone knows though, I /do/ know this was not a Good Idea, nor should I have been doing it. And I really regret it and wish I hadnt. I dont hold the other girl to blame either though she did insist.

Anyways, I'm kicking myself feel free to kick me too!

I feel for you - I took some similar type photos for a friend of mine, who is a professional photog, for his portfolio - he sent the link, and I clicked it, not realizing right off what would show up. Thank goodness this was on a Sunday at work, so no one was around, but I definitely was a bit freaked.

I might address some of the people spreading rumours - depending on how you feel, either by telling them the truth, or telling them to stop making shite up. Or just tell them that regardless of whether or not it's true, it's certainly not their business, nor is it appropriate for work chatter.

Oh, glad to hear they didn't get out of hand "disciplining" you for it either!

Okay, you knew it:

was Bad.
could get you In Trouble.
was Stupid.

And yet you did it anyway? At work, where other people might be able to see?

I'm not going to kick you when you're down, I'm not going to rub it in or anything. I'm going to give you some advice.

Any ONE of those conditions should have been enough for you to tell your co-worker NO. If she was that hell-bent on seeing it, passing her a paper with a URL for her to look up on her own time, or put it on a CD or a thumbdrive, or SOMETHING. There were other options. Next time just say NO.

Thanks Broom. lesson taken (sadly not retroactively) and will be remembered.

I did however, speak to her about it (Aka, I told her that the boss wanted to talk to me about it and she got a horrified look as well, so she feels the same way I think.). So she likely wont be asking again.

That is of course, if such a situation HAPPENS again.

As the boyfriend who received the picture, it was very tastefully done and immensely enjoyed. ... About the only thing that would have made it better was if I had of been able to take it personally.

One thing we all need to remember, is that the computers we use at work, are obviously the company's property, and the co. may have programs or procedures set up to monitor anything we do on our computer, right down to recording all keystrokes, even if the text typed is removed before sending as an e-mail, or posting in a comment box.

That's why it's not a good idea to even jokingly type something such as "...ain't the boss an ***hole?" into an e-mail form, or, ".....customer was a real f**kwad" into the comment area of a POS, or on a phone or tech support rep's computer, just to have a chuckle with a cow-orker looking over your shoulder, even if you delete the text before, or without, sending or posting.

We had an incident at my work where a guy jokingly threatened to kill another employee in our intranet e-mail. The next thing his Lead knows, is that he's getting called up to the office, and management asking "why is Joe threatening to kill Sam?" (Made up names) Corp had monitored the-mail!

I always mention to any new hires, or even exisisting employees that would rather have all their teeth pulled and have a colonoscopy on the same day, than to learn more than the very basics on the computer to keep the intra-company e-mails professional, save for maybe a little bit of light, non-controversial banter, simply because corp can and will monitor.
