This happened a few weeks ago. We have a cashier who has a very loud voice, with a New York accent(no offense to those who do!). It's very high pitched and whiny and when she talks near you it's pretty much all you can hear.
Well one day she was at the register next to mine. As I was finishing up with a customer, she asked if she could borrow my pen. She's very talkative, so even though I could've just handed her my pen and gone back to my business, I couldn't because she insisted on talking to me about how her pen is missing. I had the man's money in my hand, and my drawer opened, and I put the money in, and his receipt printed, and I closed my drawer and gave him his receipt. He kinda looked at me for a minute as I moved on to my next customer(I don't think he spoke much english), and then started to walk away. Then I realized "Oh my gosh, I didn't give you your change!!" I think it was around $20 worth of change, not sure though. I felt so bad.
Then my next customer commented on how the other cashier was distracting(not in a sucky way, just in an 'I understand how that could happen, don't worry about it,' way)
