  • Apparently I can't read a schedule

I feel dumb; at my PT job I don't have a set schedule, but generally work the same nights each week. Because I also work FT, I plan out pretty much every day when I get the schedule. So this week I was on Monday, and I thought, Thursday night. So wed was the day I was going to finish cleaning.

So I'm home, all dusty and so on, the phone rings, and its the store. I listen to the message, and oops, I was supposed to be there THAT night. So I called back, apologized profusely. She said she knew something was up as I am never late, always show up, and if something happens, i call. Bottom line, I didn't have to go in, as there were enough others to cover, and I don't have to go in tonight, as there is a surplus of people as well.

I feel bad, but fortunately they realized it was an honest mistake.

Thats nothing, I've actually turned up the day before I was supposed to work.

If you start off with the premise that the general public are stupid and work up from there you will be fine, and occasionally supprised.

I've misread the schedule a handful of times before.

One time, my co-worker showed up too early one day, about an hour and a half before he was schedule to clock in. He thought he was suppose to work at 8:30 and he was really 10:00. He can't drive home because he lives too far away. Wasting an hour and a half isn't easy sometimes ...

Then what do I do? The next day I do the exact same thing!!! I was scheduled for 10:00 and I arrived at 8:30. I could have slept in dammit!!!

Needless to say, he gave me shit about it!!

But to be fair (to us), the manager changed the schedule around and didn't really let anyone know about it (she does this a little too often for my liking).
This area is left blank for a reason.

I made a couple of mistakes at my day job a couple of years back. The main one was when hours were lower and we started coming in at slightly later times than what we were used to. I was supposed to come in at 1:45 and 1:00 respectively...

Oops. It turned out that what I thought was my 1:45 time was actually my 1:00 time and vice-versa. Luckily, I have a pretty good track record as far as attendance goes, so they just kind of laughed it off. I still felt really bad about it, so I asked if I could just come in at 1:00 the next day (when my start time was actually 1:45) and they said that would be okay.

I did something similar later on, but the difference was only 15 minutes and I just ended up doing the same thing I did last time that happened.

I once worked at a restaurant as a busboy, waiter, and prep cook. (I had just come back from Europe broke, was eager for shifts, young, and energetic)
Each job was on a different day and had a different schedule and more than once I woke up in a total panic because I had no idea what day of the week it was.
