This is embarrassing. I felt like a real idiot. A couple came through my lane and I put everything inside a big bag and handed it to the woman thinking to myself "man, that was kind of shoddily bagged." The woman then sarcastically said, "Oh, nicely bagged, thanks". I feel like I've been hit over the head, I can't believe the bitch said that. I just stare back at her for a minute. Then she asks for the total again and, in an attempt to be rude back, I silently turned the screen towards her. As they walk out the door I'm wondering why she said thanks and have a good night if she's such a bitch. Then it hits me, what she actually DID say. "Oh, nice big bag, thanks." That's right, she was being NICE. I misheard her because my ears were filled up with crap from this stupid sinus infection. I felt bad because I NEVER would have acted like that unless someone had insulted me. I always make it such a priority to be polite, and then I go and so something like that in an attempt to retaliate for the imagined rudeness. It's too bad they were gone before I could explain myself and apologize. Am I really that paranoid? Am I now programmed to just automatically expect customers to be nasty?
