  • Not Drunk?

This situation sucked for all parties involved. My CW noticed the man in his window had trouble talking, had some kind of liquid (thought it was beer) spilled down his shirt and he was doing the drunk walk--not walking straight. The guy sat down at a table.

CW called security so they could take care of the guy. CW had the best intentions. He just wanted to make sure the guy was okay and not walking around so drunk that he didn't know what he was doing.

Security found him, let him away from the tables and paged someone with him. We all thought CW did a good thing by getting the guy off the floor so that nothing happened to him.

Well.... It turned out he wasn't drunk. He was handicapped. The liquid on his shirt? Drool. CW felt so bad and it was just such a bad moment that CW kind of got chewed out by the head of security.

I got CW's POV but I can also see the poor guy's POV. All were emotionally crushed. It was so bad. I don't think a sorry would've helped much. But I really hope the guy knows we're all unbelieveably sorry and that we hope he has a good time regardless.

That sucks. And worse, you just know that if the guy had been a drunk, and caused problems, CW might well have gotten chewed out by security for that instead.

IF nobody told CW that the guy was handicapped then how was he supposed to know? You start assuming that someone is handicapped just cause they appear to be can land someone in some seriously hot water.
He did the right thing. Better safe than sorry. & what if next time the person who looks drunk, really is & NOBODY does anything & the drunk goes out & kills someone? What then?

Late to the party, but your CW did nothing wrong.

They saw someone that had all of the signs of being drunk and called security. At that point, it was up to security to check on the person and determine if they were drunk or not, or if they were a potential problem.

Yeah he did nothing wrong, it can be real hard to tell if someone is drunk or not sometimes. there has been times where I thought I saw someone who was drunk only to find out he was handicapped in someway. It's always to be safe than sorry
