  • Hina gets taught a lesson

On Friday, one of the Customer Service Manager's at my Wally World decided to teach me a little lesson the other day. She picked my cash bag up from where it was resting beside my til and hid it. Which normally would be a bitchy thing to do, but in this case it was my own fault.

I walked away from my cash and left the money bag sitting there.

See in the past I would count down my cash, and then walk the bag to my CSM, who would walk me to the cash office. But a week or so ago, one of the CSMs told me that I am supposed to empty out my trash and hanger box at the end of my shift. A fact I only learned then. So, I started doing that. Usually I would do the trash and hangers, then get a CSM to reopen my til and countdown.

On Friday, however, the last customer paid in cash. So I decided to just count down first, and then empty out my trash and hangers. Normally in this case, I would just carry the cash bag with me, but for some reason on Friday I forgot. When I finished emptying out my trash I turned to where I normally place the bag as I'm emptying the trash, only to find the bag not there. So I realize I must have left it at my till. I run back, and it's not there. I start to freak out, I run back and forth between both spots in a panic. Finally I decided to go to tell a Manager or a CSM what had happened.

At that exact moment, my CSM comes up to me with something behind her back. I let out a sigh of relief, and accepted the lecture. I also learned, that you are supposed to have the CSM open your Till for you. I did not know that before now, none of the other CSMs ever mentioned it.

I wonder, if i hadn't already put in my two weeks notice, would they have fired me?

No, you get a write up normally for that. Then if it happens again in the next six months you would get fired. Or at least that was how it was done years ago when I worked there. Had to write somebody up for that exact thing.

I've seen people who leave the cash out or til open, I tend to hang around so no one tries to steal it. Someday I hope to get a tip or a thank you for doing it, but I don't have my hopes up.

Had a coworker one night who was filling her change machine with rolls of coins (which you're supposed to do after you've exhausted your loose coins because of the way the damn audits work...) and she dropped the roll of quarters she was holding on to to check out a customer... I noticed her line getting longer, and didn't want anyone to steal the quarters, so I moved them over to the next register behind that change machine, and waited...
Sure enough, once the line died, she looks over, and over, and over, getting a little frantic... but I couldn't get back over to give it back to her cause I was busy on my end, too... finally got back over and handed back the coin roll and told her she needs to watch out for that...
        "I call murder on that!"
