  • Whoops.

It's been forever since I've posted here. I used to work at the customer service counter at a grocery store. I still work at that store, but I've been "promoted", I guess, to cash accountability. Basically I work from 4/5/6 to a little after midnight, counting all the registers and taking care of coupons, etc. I only get scheduled customer service once a week or so, and I hardly deal with customers at all while counting (HUGE plus!)

Anyway, last night, I had just finished counting the pharmacy till and was entering the safe room which is behind the service desk, when I heard over the intercom for me to call the extension for floral. (I didn't see who was working over there, but it's usually a woman. There's one guy that works over there.) So I call over, and I'm told that when I count their till, if it's 2 dollars over, it belongs to a customer that claimed she didn't get her change back. So I was like, ok, I'll set it aside with a note if it is over by that much.

I counted a few more tills and when I got to floral, I saw that the guy was working. I assumed the lady I talked to earlier had left and he was closing. He told me that I should set aside those 2 dollars if it is over. "I know, the lady that works over here called me earlier and told me all about it."

The floral guy looks at me and in all seriousness goes, "I'm not a lady."

I bet my face was as red as a beet when I heard that! I apoligized profusely, and he told me don't worry about it. I totally thought it was a woman over the phone. He has a higher voice than I do, so I'm sure he's been accused of that before.

Bonus whoops: I totally forgot to arm the safe last night, and as I was falling asleep, I remembered it and had to call the overnight manager to arm it for me. I'm still new at this counting business, it's only my 2nd week doing it on my own. I should probably make a checklist of things to do before I leave so I don't forget it again.
