  • So much for Time Management

I'm always lecturing my students on time management. It's a very important part of nursing. All too often students set the wrong priorities, and don't prepare properly before class . . . this will be important later.

Today, I had on the calender a guest speaker: a panel of parents from a peri-natal loss support group. Class starts at 9. No panel. I take the roll, talk about some odds and ends that the students need to be aware of. Still no panel.

I excuse myself to call. The lady at the support groups immediately gets apologetic . . . she thought the panel was at 4pm because that's when my class was held last semester. I'd neglected to tell her my class time changed for this semester.

    Oops!

Well, it is what it is. Fortunately, I have some nursing games; I pulled one out for the class to play, and we had a good time with it, and it'll help them prep for their exam next week.

A couple of hours into class, the academic counselor comes in. She came to give a talk on time management . . . at my request three weeks ago. I'd forgotten all about it.

    Ooops!

    Not my finest hour.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

This sounds like a great many of my days when I forget or don't take time to write things down as I go. All I can say is I have good days and bad days when it comes to organization and time management.

However, your students may remember it as your finest example.
