I have this patient and his mother at my desk, the little guy is about two or so and he's having a procedure the next day. I have to register the patient inbetween his screams. His mother takes advantage of our up front discount (pay your amount due and we'll give you 15% off). While running her credit card, all heck breaks loose. We have 8 patients, 2 people registering and 2 of the patient's orders have problems. I come back to the desk and ask her to sign, tell her that she keeps the bottom copy and she leavs and I run back up front to try to deal with an incompetant dr's office on the phone.
Last night the person who had the cash drawer balanced and the same person opened in the morning and balanced then. In the afternoon she finally caught the mistake (the copy of the reciept was on the previous page and was easily missed). We find that it came from my patient from the previous day. Well I called her at home, then tried her cell and she didn't answer. Eventually we got in touch with her and she did take both reciepts. If we didn't get this reciept, we would be in DEEP trouble. She lived pretty far off, so much that she would pass two hospitals to get to us.
After work I had to drive 40min to her house and get the reciept and bring it back to the hospital. The crappy part of this is that I had to do it on my own time and used up my own gas. I know that I will probably be written up, but it's alot better than my boss going and getting the reciept and now at least she knows that I can be trusted to take care of things. I'm sooooo thankful that the patient didn't tell us to **** off, she was really nice! I know I could blam the patient, but if I didn't let the whole chaos piss me off, then I would have realized that she took both of them and could have easily gotten them. But like I said, better I go get it than my boss.
