So it's late June and our motel's outdoor pool still isn't open.
It was supposed to officially open on Memorial Day weekend.
It was really supposed to open (i.e. was in the budget for) in April.
It is not open. It had a leak, which we told our Regional Maintenance Engineer (RME) last September. It also needs resurfacing. The surface is rough, not to mention ugly. The company that did it last time did a crappy patch job, and the patches promptly stained. One of them looks like a skid mark on the bottom of the pool (and I'm not talking about the kinds of skid marks left by rubber tires).
In early May, the company that does out pool came out, tracked down the leak to a pipe near the pump, and...that was it. Boss Lady tried to call RME, who said he was waiting for the pool people to call him back. This particular company is not very good at following up or following through on things, and I frankly don't know why my company keeps their contract with them since it's been this way as long as I've worked at the motel.
After a few weeks of not getting any answers, Boss Lady called Area Manager to see if he could put some pressure on RME and the pool company. We also asked if we could go ahead and open the pool in the meantime, since it's just a slow leak. Area Manager said no, since some guests had reported last year that the surface was rough enough to cut their feet. No opening the pool until it was resurfaced, he said. Meanwhile, we didn't have any ETA for the pool opening to tell guests (and we've lost some business because of it). Memorial Day weekend came and passed. For the past few weeks we still haven't heard from RME or anyone else.
A quick word about RME: he sucks at communicating. If you have a question, good luck getting him on his phone. If he says he'll call you back, you'll never get that phone call because he'll never follow-up. And if you email him, better make sure your question is in the first two sentences of the email, because I swear he doesn't read past those. If you have more than one question, better email them separately.
Today, Other MOD called Area Manager to see if we could drain the pool and have a local company do the work and then send the bill to Accounts Payable.
Area Manager flipped his shit:
AM: "What do you mean your pool isn't open already?!?"
Um...because you said we couldn't open it until it was resurfaced?
AM said he was going to call RME. A few minutes later, RME calls back:
RME: "What do you mean your pool isn't open already?!?"
RME talked to Boss Lady and tried to claim that while he knew the pool "needed work", he didn't realize we weren't opening it. Boss Lady told him that she had a record of every email she sent him and every email he sent her that that "I know you knew our pool was still closed."
Suddenly we have a direct line to one of the pool guys at the pool company. I'm draining the pool now and they'll be here within a few days to resurface our pool and fix our leak.
