I'm in [city]. I was trying to get a job at the new XXXX store, but they only had like 4 fulltime and 8 parttime positions to give out, so it was very... restrictive (hiring) I guess is the best word. Which also means they probably won't get openings very often, but yeah I do check back (by phone) with BL every month or two to see how things are and stuff... I don't actually know her by face and I would think she'd be in the offices out the back anyway.
Last time I called I got a bit discouraged because I thought it sounded like she was thinking "argh how can I get rid of her?!" when she realised who I was, but I'm hoping that was just due to my rampant paranoia

I tried to go for the Garden City positions. I'm pretty glad I didn't get it, I heart my job where I am. Plus when the centre was evacuated the other day (toxic chemicals used when they weren't supposed to), Borders was the last shop to shut. AND they were the closest store to the toxins. Hmm.

Tollbaby, you could always get a master's in library science and become a librarian.
I make $16 an hour now, and I will start out at $20 an hour once I finish my master's.

I would think you make far more as a library technician than as a book store employee.
honey, I make $15 an hour as a temp - if I was a library tech, I'd be making about $11 up here I can't live on that.... I'm just looking for a part-time job to supplement my full-time income (and because I'm bored stiff on weekends - I have no life). I can't afford to finish the BA I'm working on now, much less continue on with a Masters *sigh*

Alfie - maybe they were only the last to close cos they couldn't convince some SCs to leave the premises?
But yeah nonetheless... that's dodgy. Do you know who was using the chems and why? (I'm a curious bug.)

I would have thought that if SCs were told that they were currently sniffing in very dangerous chemicals, that they would promptly leave. But hey, maybe reading their magazines was more important.

They closed a store next door to Borders, and there were contractors renovating it. Do you know how at Westfield, they block up the shop, making it into a large shoebox? Well the *smart* contractors decided to use a highly toxic chemical (which can be inhaled, or if you are of the non breathing kind, it will seep through your skin anyway). The Material Safety Data Sheet said that it should only be used in very well ventilated areas. Fancy a shoebox not being well ventilated? So people had headaches, vomitting, etc etc throughout a huge section of the shopping centre.

Have I satisfied your curiosity yet?

I wouldn't put it past some people to refuse to leave without getting to first purchase their book/ask about something/etc. And it would not surprise me if some people didn't believe the warnings, and maybe just thought people were trying to get out of work. Though I am admittedly pretty cynical when it comes to people

WOW. If it's not already compulsory to have some sort of licence for doing that type of renovating, it should be introduced. And if these geniuses have one, then theirs needs to be reviewed. -_-

On a side note, I won't be posting for a while after this. One of my fingers has gotten seriously infected (cat bite) and it takes me 10 times as long to type anything with one hand out of commission. So I'ma just lurk for a while

BL rang and I HAS A JOB!!!
                  Celebrations and jubilations!!!

She rang and offered me a part time position!
Excuse me, I have to go sing from the rooftops now! *happy dance*

P.S. My kitty bit me cos she had her leg in a cast and she was attacking the cast and had broken 2 teeth on it and was going really crazy. When I tried to pick her up to get to the vet she didn't like her leg being bumped and bit me. Normally she is wonderful and very friendly though
