    Official Release Date

    I'm getting fired on November 4th! So freaking excited!! I've been burnt out on this job for the last six years, and I don't have it in me to try anymore. I explained this to my boss back in August, and she agreed to fire me so that I have a chance to collect Unemployment. The process of jumping through all the corporate hoops is long, but today I got my official release date. Only 26.5 (actually a little less, depending on what time of day I get fired) left in Hell!

    Your boss agreed to fire you? Wow. I guess she understands your burnout pretty well.

    Have you got another job lined up, or...?

      Yeah, my boss is awesome. I told her that this place makes me suicidally depressed for which I had to be medicated. She's been very understanding.

      Thankfully, Hubs has been blessed with a well-paying job that will cover our bills. I plan to spend the first week or two in my jammies, watching TV in bed with the cats. Depending on whether or not I'm able to get Unemployment, I might look for something just to have money to set aside, but it won't matter what it is as long as it's a paycheck and doesn't make me crazy. But not until I get this place rinsed out of my soul.

        Maybe you could try doing survey sites for spare change type money. I do those and they're okay.

          Unemployment is usually set up so that if you're let go without cause you collect. Laid off as opposed to fired.
          Labor boards have info on local laws for free
          HR believes the first person in the door
          Learn how to go over whackamole bosses' heads safely
          Document everything
          CS proves Dunning-Kruger effect

            Yes, but I have a former co-worker who was fired from here who collects, and I have been told that in my state you're likely to be able to collect as long as you weren't fired for "gross misconduct" or theft. There are no guarantees, but we'll see. I'ma roll the dice. Either way, not being here is going to have a HUGE positive impact on all other aspects of my life.

              We fired an employee for gross misconduct and he still received unemployment.
              Figers are vicious I tell ya. They crawl up your leg and steal your belly button lint.

              I'm a case study.

                Oh, don't tempt me lol. I already promised my boss I'd behave, although my BTMF is wearing a little bit thinner everyday. Only nineteen more working days!

                  If you're in an at-will state, the company doesn't actually have to list a reason for termination if they don't want to. In my experience, that should qualify you for UE (it has worked for me in the past.

                    I think I am, although I've always heard it phrased as "right-to-work" state (are they the same thing?). I'm not really sure about those types of particulars as far as whether or not a reason will be listed. The company I work for has about 1300 employees, plus we're a wholly-owned subsidiary of Major Insurance Company based out of a different state. We don't even have an HR office at our location, it's all handled by the parent company. My boss doesn't even know, but she's doing everything she can to help me with my plan, and I love her for it.

                    Only nine and a half more working days!

                        Aah, good info, thanks! Hopefully however it plays out, I'll be able to collect. If not, I may find myself looking for any job that will hire me come January. Not a great time of year to be looking for work.

                          So, my official release date has been pushed back until sometime next week, or possibly even the week after. Apparently, HR in their infinite wisdom has decided to change reps from the one my boss has been working with all this time to a new one who doesn't know anything. The new rep wants to see documentation that my boss has jumped through all the hoops she's supposed to before being able to fire me (she has). Then it goes to the HR person's boss, who is out until sometime next week. I guess I can't complain about another week's worth of pay, but I reallyreallyreally want to get out of here. Oy.

                            You are the happiest person I have seen, who got fired.

                            Congratulations.

                            I left customer service 422 days ago, I do not miss it. Now, I work machines that do not talk back (unless I start to snort caffeine, BAD IDEA).

                              Thanks! Although I'm still waiting to get fired.

                              Yup, one week after I was supposed to be set free, I'm still stuck in Cubicle Hell. My boss was out all last week and won't be in until tomorrow. I'm really hoping that they cut me loose sometime this week. It's really just getting to be torture at this point.
