Once again my job will be changing. When I first started about 4 1/2 years ago, there was a lot of freedom. Each week you gave them the days and times you'd be available to work the following week and you'd be scheduled out of that. You could split shifts - work a couple hours and then work 2 hours later that day. You could give only 1, 2 or 3 hours for a day. If you wanted a week off, you just didn't give any available time for that week. If you wanted more than a week though you had to get it approved. Anyway, it was very flexible and great for me because of my health issues. I can't work long shifts and sometimes splitting shifts was a good option for me.
Then after about 2 years our call center started doing more partnership work with other call centers and the first thing to change was all shifts had to be a minimum of four hours. There are a couple of days when that is a little much for me so we worked it out that I could do 3 1/2 hours some days. Not too bad. Then as more partnership work came in, it was decided that everyone would have to have set days and hours that they worked because we had to be able to provide the partners with a definite amount of work. So I got locked into Monday, Thursday and Friday. Now the job is completely different than when I first started and there's really nothing I can do about it.
This week the next bombshell drops. I think I mentioned before we do work on three yearly holidays for a national flower delivery company, rhymes with Go Showers. I really do not enjoy this at all - not only because we seem to get more SC's than with my regular job, but I just don't find it as interesting. Anyway, it turns out that as we're getting ready to take Go Showers calls for Mother's Day, we've been informed that we are trying to get a contract with them to take calls all year. I spoke to my boss and pointed out that this is a way that we won't be able to make as much money. When you work for one of our partners you do make an extra 50 cents per hour, but a typical week I work only 12 to 15 hours, maybe 20 tops, so that will net me a cool 6 to 10 bucks extra in my paycheck.
But with my regular job we have lots of opportunities to make bonuses by selling and I am very good at that. In fact I often win selling contests and can earn a great deal more than 10 dollars a week. She did say that this will be taken into consideration when scheduling is done so that no one has to do the partnership work all the time, but it just isn't sitting right with me at all. I've been here almost 5 years and developed a good bit of seniority, as you know what the turnover rate is at a call center. I know I can't just refuse to do Go Showers except for the three holidays, but I'm wondering if I should talk to my boss and see if I can play the seniority card to be scheduled for them as little as possible. They are training newer hires and I'm hoping they will try to get them all trained on this so that those who have been here longer will have some options.
I'm just really bummed about this.

I'm kind of worried about what the agency is going to stick me with when my current contract ends at the end of June.
I never thought of that but it does!
