Okay, so I missed work yesterday because I had a flat tire and no spare. No money, and no one that could give me a ride to work until 4:30, and my shift is over at 6. So I walked down to the gas station by my house and called in to work for the day.

I tend to miss work on Mondays a lot, but it is coincidence. I have really crappy luck on Mondays, I guess. For the record, I have plenty of sick/vacation time left to cover it.

I got in today, told the boss everything worked out and that my father in law got me a couple of used tires from his old car when he got off work- so I have a spare now, yeah! She seemed cool about it and was very nice.

A little while ago, I got an email from her asking if we could meet for a conversation at 3pm today. I said sure, but I'm kinda wondering what it's about.

It's either about missing yesterday since it was yet another Monday, or about an email I sent her last week about my birthday. In the email, I commented that I would really like to take the day before my birthday off work (we get a day of vaca for our b-days). The problem is that is a very busy time of the year for us around here, and I've never been allowed to take it off in the past. So I mentioned in my email that my co-worker was allowed to take an entire week off a couple of months ago while we were in the middle of registration (just as busy, if not busier than the time around my b-day), and I was just hoping that since they allowed her to take that week off, that maybe I could take the Monday before my birthday off just this once.

She never replied to the email - and today we're having a 'conversation'. I'm just very curious/nervous about what the heck she wants to talk to me about.

I'm not going to lose my job or anything, but whenever the boss wants to have a conversation, I just get nervous.

I would have posted this in the Morons in Managment forum, but I like my boss! She's a really nice lady . . . I'm just wondering what our 'conversation' will be about.

Anyone else get called into a meeting with the boss, and get nervous even though there probably isn't anything to worry about? I'll post an update once we chat . . . probably worrying for no reason.

YES!!! When I was in the call center, I was on a call, and my manager walks by and drops a note on my desk "As soon as you are finished, meet me in the HR Room!" This of course scares the crapola out of me, seeing as how I have never heard of good things happening at ambush meetings in HR.

I finish my call, and I'm shaking as I go down to HR. I get there, and all 3 managers from the call center are there, and the department head. My manager told me to close the door and sit down. ( OMFG, What the hell did I do?!!?!? was all I could think) I sit down, and then they finally tell me, that I don't need to worry, it's nothing bad.

As it turned out, they wanted to talk to me about helping to develop and work in a new pilot program that was to be kept super secret. It meant a pay raise and a schedule change for the better, as well as some major time off the phones. They were not opening up the positions in the pilot program to the general call center population, they were hand choosing the group based on proven performance, not senority like most new positions. I was not allowed to say ANYTHING about what I was doing for nigh on 9 months before they announced the new program, and the job change to the rest of the staff.

So look on the bright side, and don't worry until they tell you there is something to worry about.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

Whenever one of the supervisors tell me they need to talk to me the first thing I always ask is if I'm in trouble So far the answers always been no thank goodness!

Yeah - no reason for me to worry. The conversation wasn't even about either issue - it was about other work-related stuff that I missed yesterday.

I knew I hadn't done anything wrong, but I just couldn't help but be nervous as heck about the meeting, anyway!

My boss has pulled me away from work twice to talk about things and both times I almost had a heart attack. The first time was to sit me down and ask if I wanted to be promoted to assistant manager, which I took. The second time was to pull me in the back and give me a big decorated cookie for my birthday.

Got called into the office one time while I was having a pretty good week so I'm wondering what I did wrong for this. I go in and say "I plead innocence!" which brought about a chuckle. Needless to say, my fears were a little more compounded when a bunch more people came in who I have little to no interaction with. We're wondering what the hell did we do wrong to cause this mass gathering.

Turns out we were asked to come up with ideas to improve morale at the store.

Couple years ago, I had my wisdom teeth pulled. Next day at work, my boss comes by and is asking how it went, etc. He then asks if I can come up to his office for a minute. I'm thinking he wants me to put together another employee event since it's been awhile since the last one. (I was the go-to guy for our company events) I go in, he asks me to shut the door, then starts into a speech about things are tight right now, etc, and I just know what's coming. Sure enough, I was laid off. On the plus side, he got me an interview that same day with a friend of his, whom I'm still working for today. So...

Laid off at 9:15am on a Friday
              Interview at 10:30am
              Job offered/accepted at 1:00pm
              Desk cleaned out at 6:00pm
              Started working the following Monday.
