  • So I'm pushing MasterCards

More then a month ago I was filling out a job application for the Chain Bookstore. They called me for an interview and at the time I was told I will have to work on Harry Potter weekend (this weekend) and have to push MasterCards.

I had no problem working this weekend. Pushing MasterCards is not my strong point. Pushing anything is not my strong point. For the past two weeks (though I've been cashiering less then that) I hadn't signed up one person. The manager (there is like 4 or 5 of them) who talks to me the most is honestly nicely telling me to push them, giving me pointers to push them. I'm bit nervous about me not getting people signed up. Yesterday afternoon we were told for Sat. 7/30 we will get five dollars for each MasterCard we sign up. I figured I will suck at signing up people. I got two people signed up today (Sat)! I am happy about it. Not really about the $5 (though that is nice) but the fact I finally I'm signing up people. I hope I can continue signing up people.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

I was hating pushing credit apps for a long time and it's still not my favorite thing ever, and I don't really get anything but an attaboy, but I tell ya, it does feel good to get one lately. I had one today. She was at service desk because she had a question and I ended up ringing her up for a TV and bunch of stuff. What got her to say yes was that she not only would save on this purchase, but all others. She had a second transaction and when she found she could save on that today with the temporary card that turned her and she did it. She was soooo appreciative. It's moments like those that make me not hate my job so very much. I'm still leaving, though, or making it very part-time.

I'm glad I got out of GameStore before they had credit cards (at 26%, no less!) to push. The pre-orders and discount cards/subscriptions were bad enough. Getting an "Attaboy" for those required obtaining ridiculous numbers of them (something like 3 per hour worked, easier said than done)...anything less got you a "Hmm. All right then. You get to keep your job that we have so graciously allowed you to have. Well, until you fail to get ANY subs/preorders for more than one or two shifts in a row, anyway..."
