Taboo on measuring yourself?
So new job bleah. Usually in hotels they ask you for your measurements for your boring new uniform and hand you a tape to measure yourself with. But if you try and measure yourself there in the back office they act like you're stripping and yell at you to go to the bathroom! This has happened more than once, with both females and males. So what's the big deal about measuring oneself in public? And it's not really all public, it's the back office. Anyone guess? Is it not professional?

why cant they just help u it would go faster lmao but umm im not sure ive never been asked that only my size so they can order shirts and that's it -
They measure you? Anytime I've had a work uniform they just asked me for my shirt and trouser sizes.How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?Comment

I can see two squeemishes:
1) Measuring touches on some 'ticklish' areas.
2) A person's measurements are private information.I am not an a**hole. I am a hemorrhoid. I irritate a**holes!

Yeah but if it's for a uniform, who cares? Plus they're not going to be broadcasting it so...I think it was because they're afraid that I'll say "you're asking me for my measurements??? Sexual harassment bleah!" And so they're trying to avoid that, but it's obviously for a uniform, not for perverted purposes and I'm not to the type to yell about sexual harassment anyway, if someone starts skeeving me out at work I quit, there always others. Even though I know that you're supposed to report, which I do...after I quit.Can't reason with the unreasonable.

I'd say it's a kneejerk reaction after someone started stripping off to get accurate measurements.
Might not have even been at this hotel chain, but if HR sent round a memo about it...
It's like the warning signs on power tools or 'contains nuts' on bags of peanuts.Comment

It happens, there was a huge hupla at my work in the changing area for the clean rooms. Its unisex and its not like your expected to get naked first. People take off a layer and trow it in a locker real quick before putting on the clean suit. And for the extra shy there is a stall with a curtain. People rarely use it. Most girls and guys will have on something underneath, exercise clothes being the most common. Because they know they are changing often.
But someone had an issue, HR said everyone needs to change in the stall. I expect it to last until they can move the troublemaker or a lawyer can make sure everything is OK with the status quo because no one wants to wait 20 minutes plus for the stall.Comment

You can't change for a clean room in the bathroom. It's against cGMPs. (current good manufacturing practices, a government thing) But I would wait for the stall. They have to pay you for that time. It seems like it would seriously reduce productivity though.
On measuring yourself for a uniform, you're still dressed aren't you? It's not a skin tight uniform so you can still be wearing regular clothes.Comment
