  • Radio Shack here I come

So, today was my first, and last, day at ACME. I went in to train with the Frozen Food manager, so I know what to do at nights.

I must say, and excuse my language, but FUCK that.

Does anyone know how excrutiatingly UNcomfortable it is being sweaty, and COLD? I knew instantly that I would not be able to do this, I helped the manager out sure, but there was NO way I could do that ALONE at night.

It just wasn't gonna happen, I knew this. So I explained very politely that this wasn't for me, and left. I then proceded to call up Radio Shack, since my boss all but assured me a new job.

    PM: Phone Man
    ME: Protagonist

PM: Thank you for calling Radio Shack Blah Blah, this is Phone Man, how can I help you?

ME: Can I speak to Tracy?

PM: Uh...She doesn't work here... She went to Menlo.

ME: Whaaa? Oh...Um...Can you give me the number there?

So apparently shortly after (VERY shortly since I just saw her two weeks ago) seeing me, my ex-manager was transfered to a new store. So I call her up, and ask, sounding WAY too desperate that I need a job, and she tells me she will talk to the DM

    So... I'm calling her tommorow.

I also realized something. As much as I disliked Radio Shack in the past, it was a job I could do, and not to toot my own horn, I was actually GOOD at it. The things that made me DESPISE the job are mostly gone, and it's just... A place I know I can be at comfort.

    I hope I didn't make a giant mistake.

Well, let me just say that I hope the crap that's been happening to you is only preemptive kamra, and you're about to get your account paid up. Yes, that's a good thing.

Does that mean I get to be a complete dick in the near future with no repercussions?

Though... I don't like the sound of Preemptive Karma, sounds kinda like Pre-Crime, punishment before an act is commited.

EEEEEW. I just referenced Minority Report. I am so sorry!

          HA HA! Screw Radio Shack!

Seeing the initial flaw in the plan, the whole Manager being moved to a new store, I started going back on the applications I made originally. I called back Blockbuster Video, no go...

But then I called Best Buy...

I have an interview at 2pm tommorow.

Man, I feel like I'm just running circles. How many threads have I made detailing every new twist and turn of this hellish process of finding employment?

I understand how you feel ever since I was told my contract was up at the end of June and they didn't have the budget to keep me, I've been papering the town with my resume.

I really feel for both of you.

              *crosses fingers, toes, & eyes*

Here's luck that you both will be rescued from unemployed hell in the near future and that your rescue is not worse than being unemployed, but with money.

Not quite, but yeah, it's a bit like Pre-Crime, except that after you get punished you get to commit the crime anyway! Good luck with the jobs, and I hope something great comes up for you. Check with various non-retail companies in your area and see if they have any openings in your city. I just put in a few CVs to places that don't advertise their openings for mail-room/help-desk/etc except on their internal website.

Update: It's so nice that companies have become SO impersonal, they have reduced their "We're not hiring you" to a POST CARD.

I came downstairs today, and my mom said "So I heard you got a letter from Best Buy."

                  "Er...I did?"

"John put it on your bed."

                  "Oh."

So I go back upstairs, and sure enough there's my mail, with a small flimsy yellow card paper from Best Buy.

"We are sorry to inform you that we have decided to go with someone who better fills the needs of blah blah blah..."

Bah! Thats insulting, they can't even give me a freaking phone call? Are they THAT detached from the public now?

I am not down yet my friends. I have an application to Barns and Nobel! Hope to god they hire me.

Good luck on that! Their starting pay is pretty good and, last I heard, you got $.25/hr raise every 6 months like clockwork, up to a very respectable maximum.

Maybe it's just my forte, but when I was in the B&N Cafe in one store for a couple years I had the time of my life. Yeah, there were high-pressure times and I disliked sweeping, but the job was great and I met a lot of really interesting people... I still wonder why that nice old Austrian guy stopped coming in for his earl-gray tea and apple strudel every afternoon, and I hope it wasn't anything bad.

BN can be a good place; I've found it really depends on the management. Raises are yearly, though, in my experience (usually 50 cents assuming you at least meet standards on your review).

I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed, too. Not my eyes, though, it gives me a headache. Sorry.

Will-Mun, I didn't realize you were in NJ. Can I ask where? Which BN? You can PM me if you want to share. I'm just curious.

Psh, fine... Don't cross your eyes. I guess you just really don't want me to get the job!

But yeah, hope and pray, cause I'm at the end of my rope guys... And I don't know where to go from here.

                          Seriously, good luck with B&N.

I had an interview one time for a local telecom company (long gone now, went down in flames) that I recieved my rejection letter the very next day. Seriously. Interview on a Friday about 8am, had the rejection letter in my hands that Saturday at 10am. My buddy asked me why they didn't have me drop it in the mailbox for them, since it seemed like they must have been writing it while I was in my interview.

Not necessarily. My work used to have our mail dropped off at the post office by the accounting lady, who left at 4pm. Anything that was for delivery from that PO or any of the ones withing, say, 50 miles, would all usually get delivered the next morning.
