  • My Job is killing me... send help

Ok most of you have heard alot of the crap about my job.

we now have one shiftleader, an amancipated minor still training, a assistant manager, a manager and about 6 cashiers.... for 21 shifts a week....
I think this is what goign insane feels like....

My poot am and sl are the only ones who can work the suppervising shifts so duing the math thats 56 hours a week they each haev to work.
Me and the other cashiers as getting increased stress from our jobs from shortstaffed shifts and insane hours.

I wish he would hire 4 or 5 more people, but since he only hires people we know and 'trust' aint likely....

A part of me wants to look for a new job, another part wants to just complain complain complain, yet another part wants to demand sl training to relieve someof my 'im not trained to do this!!!!!' stress, and the final part just wants to cry when ever i see my work...

god what should i do...... my stress is already crazy and im getting panic attacks...

Depends on how much you like the job, other than the stress. If it's something you want to stick around at for a while, then ask for SL training. If not, find some place better. Jobs can be replaced, your sanity can't.

Ive worked there one year and almost a month, the SL worked back in the winter and just got rehired and this is her second week back. I can't work full time and handle school (I have enough stress with part time and school) so he wont train me even if ill cover the hard and more demanding shifts....

i like my job because of the hours (they were god with giving me hours), people and location, but since now i have to pull teeth to get the hours i want its just the people and location and its down to about 5 people i can talk to and stand.

Im really really begining to hate it....

Trust me on this one, Slice, bail out of there as soon as you physically can. Find a new job before things start getting even worse for you, and don't look back.

Don't feel like you owe them something, don't feel like you need to stick around out of loyalty, and don't forget that your wellbeing, not your job, should be your first concern. A job shouldn't cause you to stress enough to end up having panic attacks, and if it does then you need to find something different.

          What JustADude said...I totally agree.

One caveat: be careful not to just take the first thing that comes along just because you want out of where you are. I speak from experience here. I stuck around in the job that was stressing me out for too long, then jumped into something else I didn't totally think through. (The job I took was great but I had to move and I was really lonely and depressed and ended up coming back home.) All I'm saying is make sure the new gig won't give you more stress. If a job is causing panic attacks, that's not good. I have been there and it's not fun.

You might consider talking to your doctor if possible, about the anxiety. Some people are more amenable to medication than others. I took Xanax for a while and it really helped, but you have to be careful if you go that route, but if it's bad enough you might think about it for a short term thing. There are a lot of good books about panic attacks; check out Don't Panic by Wilson...among other things it gives you some techniques to deal with them.

I gotta get to work but :lotsahugs: and good luck. (And keep in mind, it doesn't hurt to look around for other jobs while you discuss with your boss ways to make the workplace less stressful...put it in terms of what's good for the whole team and they might be more willing to work with you...I'm sure you're not the only one with high stress levels and that's bad for the whole workplace...)

Hey, it's always a good idea to have a current resume...you never know when the perfect opportunity might pop up and then you can just whip out the resume. And if things get better at the job before you find a new one, just consider it practice for your job hunting skills...you'll need them eventually...

                OH NO!!!

Its offical im lookign for a new job.

My origanla plan had been to just look and see if i can work it out with my current job, and if it didnt have propsects in mind....

Today i came into work. We had a new shift leader (yeah!), we had a new cook, and there in the hall... was my old manager... Lyndsey...
Apparently my new manager couldnt handle our store anymore and switch back with her.

I like her all right but my panic attacks started with her, my hour problems started with her. She make me nervouse and i don't like work with her. she made me feel in addiquate and doesnt give raises...

So yeah this is going to be a real job hunt. I wonder how long it will take.
